I'm sorry for resurrecting this topic, but a search didn't turn up anything, so I think this is the best place to post my questions. (If not, my apologies.)

So I've got a teen who's trying to Supermax Mixology for my Dynasty. She can't moonlight or learn drinks until she's a Young Adult, and that's fine, I'm willing to work with that.   I'm just wondering about opportunities.

See I know there are Mixology Opportunities; I've heard comments on a few. She's not getting any. Hence, my questions:

1) Does anyone know if the Mixology Opportunities will fire in Sunset Valley?  I do have my own (custom-built, I don't know if that makes a difference) bars put in.  I'm just wondering if they might only fire in Bridgeport, which will suck for my Dynasty.
2) Are teens able to get Mixology Opportunities, or will those only happen when she's a Young Adult?

I'd just like to know so that if she needs her black-ops from another skill I can plan for that.  I've got painting as a backup for her, so it's not end of world if the Mixology Ops won't fire.

I think the only opportunities that teens get are school-related. There are a couple of skill ones, but they're connected with school clubs (the Young Politicians' Club, the Writing Club, etc.).

Oh, whoops, you're completely right.  I'd completely blanked on the fact that skill opps don't fire for teens.  Wow, how's that for a brain fart.  So I guess it's just question number one then.

Thanks!

Welcome Zeda :)

There is no known way to delete them from book, but you can sort list by quality so you won't see them until you scroll down ;) Also, you can name one of those foul drinks by your enemy or disliked Sim, like a little simlish revenge!

It's been a while since I've trained Max Skills in Mixology so it seems I have forgotten a thing or two. I'm wondering: wasn't it this way that at a time if you make to many custom drinks the newest ones will overwrite the oldest? Could be I was confused with nectar making also, but who knows.

So from my testing, it looks like you don't get Mixology Opportunities in Sunset Valley.

Can anyone confirm this?  I'm curious.

I've had Mixology opportunities in Sunset Valley. You can get some at Rabbit Holes ("moonlight at a party at the bistro or the bizz tower"), and others in the LN bars you added to SV. Those bars need to be community lots with LN types (dive bar, fusion lounge...), thus can be player built. There's no need to place the huge buildings from Bridgeport to enjoy a complete experience of the Mixology skill.

If you want to complete the Professor of Drinks skill challenge (learn 42 popular recipes), you'll need to have a complete set of bars, with the 9 different types:
  • Bars: dive bar, local watering hole, sports bar
  • Clubs: Poolside club, rave club, disco club
  • Lounges: fusion lounge, vampire lounge, exclusive lounge

I see you want to use Mixology as a Supermax skill for your Dynasty. If it's an official Dynasty, I think that the rules require to use the EA made lots from the lot bin. If it's an unofficial Dynasty, you can build your own.

Hmm. . .  that's something. Thank you.

This -is- for my dynasty,  but it's an unofficial one; so I build my own clubs. (I really don't like the huge buildings from Bridgeport in Sunset Valley. It just really bugs me!)

As for the opportunities, that's really odd, I haven't had any Mixology opportunities at all, even though she's now a young adult. I was wondering if it was because my bars are player built, but I guess it's either a bug in my game or just really bad luck.  (I've got painting opportunities as backups, so I'm not stuck.)

You also did answer my other question about how many different bars I needed to get the Professor of Drinks challenge done. It looks like I'll have to build a few more.  :D   Thanks.

I haven't tried moonlighting as a mixologist and I was still able to select ingredients from my stocked bar at home, but I had to "stock bar" and then "manage bar".  While managing the bar, I could make drinks with the ingredients in the bar.

However, mixology seems to be breaking my game.  I've been saving every Sim day or so and as long as I don't go to Plasma 501, The Prosper Room, or Aquarius, my Sims are fine.  If I go to those places, they inevitably become invisible, and sometimes even the resetSim cheat won't work.  Is there any way to fix this or am I just doomed not to be able to complete the learning 42 drinks challenge??

Try using the global reset command:  ResetSim *

By using the asterisk, it will reset every Sim in the game and sometimes that helps with things that are getting stuck.

Thanks for the suggestion, I didn't know about that cheat.  Sadly though, it didn't seem to work for me.  I was able to move my Sims around for a while but once I tried to send them to Aquarius and The Prosper Room again, they got stuck even more and became invisible.  Also, I noticed a big jump in their lifetime happiness points after the reset, even though they seemed to have all of their previous rewards still.

Edit: I reverted to a previous save and after going out and learning some popular drinks at bars, my female Sim's lifetime happiness points went up by about 18,000 even though I didn't see any specific wishes pop up for her that night.  My male Sim learned some drinks at a different bar and his didn't go up noticably at all.

Also, the following drinks have the +25 flame moodlet for 3 hours:
Flaming Waylon
Morcubus Molotov
Flaming Flotsam
Starry Sea

This invisible/stuck Sim bug is really annoying.  It happens more frequently when I try to go to bars to learn drinks but I didn't go to the bars for a day after saving successfully and my sims still randomly became invisible while reading some skill books later in the day.  I've barely made any progress at all today even saving every 20 minutes and going back to an older save if something goes wrong.  Every time the sims become invisible now, and I try to quit the game without saving, it just crashes and I have to force quit from the Windows task manager.

Is my entire household corrupted or is there a way to save my Sim family and move them into a fresh game??  This is really upsetting since it's a new family I started after installing all patches and EPs and I have been working on skilling them up in Bridgeport before moving them to Appaloosa Plains later.

If I can't fix this family I might just stop playing the Sims at all for a long while again.  It's way too frustrating to lose an entire family at any random moment; what is the point of playing if I have to start over every few days?

If you're having these problems only with this game file, then chances are your game is corrupted.

One more thing you can try is to go to Edit Town and save your family to the bin.  Then start a brand new game in the same town and place your family from the bin into the new game.  Everything will reset back to the start of the game, but you'll still have the family you created.

Thanks, I guess I will have to try that as a last resort now.  The resetSim cheat worked the first time my sims went invisible but after the second time it didn't fix them any more.  Then I just tried evicting the household to the clipboard and moving them into a different lot, but they still go invisible again.  It happens on Thurs at 3:43pm so there must be something wrong with the game file at that time.  I'm hoping it's just with this game and if I start a new game things will work again!

My poor sims  :'(

I went a few saves back for one last try.  It seems that each time I load up the game, my female Sim's lifetime happiness points yo-yo's around anywhere between 9,000 and 55,000 even though she hasn't spent any since these issues started happening.  Once again, the game turned my sims invisible at the same time on Thurs in my save file, so my game is probably no good.  The only thing I can think of that might have caused this - at least the only thing I've done since this started happening - was that my female Sim went to the hospital for the expensive plastic surgery on her face...

New game it is.

I'm sure I'm missing something but I'm finding it impossible to make Mixology a viable income source!  My Sims has level 10 Mixology and has access to every bar in Bridgeport, but no Sims show up - despite me going to only the hotspot bars.  Working at a high-end bar for 10 hours or so pays me about $800.  I have the Mixology LTR as well.  Going to do some further testing and see what the secret is.

I found it hard to make heaps of money moonlighting so I started throwing parties at hotspots  and bartending using my perfect harvestables and I make heaps more money because theres always people there and you usually end up with and awesome party moodlet.
It always seems impossible until its done.
