Overwatch and ErrorTrap
« on: November 02, 2014, 11:40:50 AM »
I know I read something about this somewhere but now I can't find it...
I installed Overwatch and ErrorTrap a few days because my game was freezing a lot in IP due to pathing issues. Both mods are working great and my game is running better than ever, but I'm getting so many notifications! Everytime I launch the game I get a message saying "Overwatch recorded: ####" (Always over a 1000...). There was so much lag and there were so many abandoned cars that deleting them once a day wasn't enough to fix it so  had to set it to delete them hourly. That means I get a message every sim-hour saying that a bunch of cars were deleted. At 3 o'clock I get ErrorTrap's report which is huge, so long I can't even read the whole thing because it doesn't fit in the screen. Additionally I get another bunch of script and pathing error reports during the day. I have been ignoring them so far, but I'm actually missing important game notifications because of it. So I have three questions:

1. What does "Overwatch recorded: ..." mean? Are these errors?
2. Is it normal to get SO many errors? I mean, over 1000 after loading the game and then so many more during game play sounds like my game is quite messed up. I'm planning to start an (unofficial) dynasty in IP but I'm not sure if all these errors are a bad sign  ::) .
3. Can I turn the notifications off? I think I read somewhere that Overwatch's notifications could be turned off at the City House but I can't find the option nor the thread where I read about it. I'm using the spanish translation so maybe that's why I can't find the option though.

Thanks :)

I also use Overwatch and ErrorTrap and have for quite a while.  I love how they make the game play so much better.  I don't recall ever seeing that many errors at the start-up of a game, however.  Usually I have one or two and sometimes five or so, but never that many that I recall.  You can definitely turn notifications off or down, but I'd be inclined to what to know what's causing this many errors before turning off the notifications.

I'd recommend you jump over to the NRaas site and check in with the people there.  They will be able to explain what the notifications are and help identify what errors you are getting.  They will likely need to know what map you are using and if you have any other mods installed as well as custom content.  Also, if you search through the "interactions" page on each mod's listing, you will be able to find how to change the settings, like turning off the notifications.

Good luck!   :)

Hello Eris,

Some of the Errors for ET are explained on this page: https://www.nraas.net/community/ErrorTrap-Reading-Logs

Many are harmless and/or are easily corrected.  Errors you see indicating Deleted or Destroyed objects is just ET cleaning out (not deleting the actual object) objects that are no longer in use by the game or objects a world creator might have left in by mistake.

Here is a list of some of the things Overwatch cleans up: https://www.nraas.net/community/Overwatch-FAQ

If you have particular questions on any errors reported please feel free to ask over at NRaas.  There are instructions on the Home Page for uploading script errors and someone will be able to read your errors for you.  You do need to register to post.
