Why does fish "Freshness" drop to "Foul" so quickly?

It took me a while to even realize that I wasn't catching only foul fish. I noticed that right after I caught them, they would be "good" or "great," but then, I blinked, and they were "foul" already.

I know that, realistically, a fish doesn't stay fresh forever, but this is annoying me a little bit...

I don't know why that happens but I do know that it doesn't actually matter when you are using the fish for fertilizing the garden or mounting or even for putting in a fish bowl! It doesn't even seem to effect the final outcome when cooking either, but I'm happy to be corrected if someone has found different.
On a play-through thingy on Twitch that some guru or rather were doing they even mentioned that the freshness v"s foulness of the fish doesn't matter!
Go figure!

Makes you wonder why they even bothered implementing a quality rating... Then again, I've never bothered to sell a foul fish.

It's honestly more realistic. Unless a fish is kept on ice or in a freezer of some type it does start to smell foul quickly.

True enough. Just if they're going to commit to some realism, they may want to go a bit farther and not let me you use foul fish for high quality gourmet dishes!

Question would be. Does foul fish create a lower quality meal?

No it doesn't, but it is somewhat strange to have the quality of the fish changing when the quality doesn't actually affect any outcome.    I initially thought that foul fish would equal foul food... but not as far as my chefs are concerned.
It does make me wonder why the devs included it... maybe for a future EP? <shrugs> Who knows!

Which is an issue with the game, as we don't have an ice box. In its absence, fish in the sim's inventory should be treated as if properly stored.

That was my first though about it, too.

However, even putting a "great" fish into a fish bowl doesn't stop it from quickly becoming "foul." I tried it. And you cannot put fish in the refrigerator so the whole thing is a little odd.

You can put fish in the refrigerator.  You don't have access to the refrigerator if you're off your home lot, if that's what you meant.

I couldn't before. I tried and tried. Was there an update? Or maybe it's my game. I'm going to check right now. Sorry for giving misinformation then!

The fishbowl freshness would be a very simple fix; it currently prevents decay of the wrong kind of freshness, so it completely stops decay of everything *except* fish. Kinda ironic, given that the only thing that can be added to them are fishes.

The fridge also does not know about fishes, so putting fishes in it won't stop their decay.

When I put a fish in the fridge and it turns foul I get that green cloud that emanates from the fridge when something in it has spoiled. My sims then have the option to "clean out fridge" in which case they throw the foul fish away.
