Sim Can't Get Into Bed
« on: October 22, 2014, 11:54:46 AM »
I'm having this issue lately where my Sims can't go to their bed. When I try to let them sleep or nap or even relax, they won't do it. They get that thought bubble that says they can't access it but there's nothing blocking the way at all. Also, in the thought bubble, a picture of the butler appears even if the butler is no where near. I ended up going to buy mode and replacing the bed. It's happened 3x already and with different beds/rooms and different Sims. Does anyone know what's causing this?

Have you tried resetting you sims? Is it a specific sim or all?
I love this forum and just want to say thank you to everyone! :) Have a great rest of your day!

I've always had to replace the bed with a different one.

It's happened to 3 different sims.

I've always had to replace the bed with a different one.

It's seems like that's the solution. It's just annoying because sometimes, I queue the household's bedtime and morning routine so I can either do non-Sims things while it runs in the background or I focus on one Sim. When this happens, the queue gets broken and then the Sim ends up doing something else. Come work/school time, their mood is so low.

The problem might be your lot.  In the past, I have successfully solve this problem by moving the household to clipboard, bulldoze house and rebuild house, then move household back in.

Is the ownership of the bed set to anyone? I've never had this problem but I always set bed ownership right away for all household members including the butler.

I had that problem, kept replacing beds (was happening to 3 beds in the house, randomly) and finally got rid of the butler - everything was back to normal.  I think that some butlers are just bugged... :(

Sometime items become hidden causing a routing failure to the bed (or other objects of play).  This can happen in the oddest places, often after meteor shower and such or objects no longer in use by the game become stuck and hidden.  If resetting the lot or completely taking the room apart (including the floor) doesn't work there are a couple of other solutions that might help if you do not mind using mods.

Installing Overwatch - Among other functions the mod cleans up the game upon loading and during game play: http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Overwatch+FAQ
Error Trap http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Overwatch performs save game clean up and reports errors that could be causing these problems.  Note:  If you've never used OW or ET it can take a couple of game loads for those mods to completely clean everything out.

jigs .. Jigs are objects used by the game to temporarily alter the routing system. In the case of a SocialJigTwoPerson for instance, they stop sims from walking between two sims having a conversation. They often pile up in the game causing routing issues resulting in lag.  These are easily cleaned out using Master Controller.  From City Hall or a Computer>NRaas>Master Controller>Town>Object Stats.  Select the jig items and check accept to flush from the game.

I just wanted to add that in my case it was not a routing failure; it was like there was an invisible, weightless Sim already sleeping on one side (changeable) of any double bed, or taking the full space of a single bed, at certain, unpredictable points in time.  Which resulted in confusion, resetting the action queue, and unrelated Sims trying to share a bed...  Assigning the bed ownership didn't help.  At one point I saw one of my sleeping Sims float off the bed, through the wall of the house, and continue to sleep outside hovering at first floor level.  This was all sorted as if by magic, as soon as the butler was gone.  I haven't tried a different butler in that household, though!  I just had a thought, could it have been some kind of Bonehilda/butler issue?

Actually, I haven't had the issue in a while, thankfully. Although I've been sending a lot of sims to Uni lately so I don't know if it will recur once I go back to my normal gameplay in the home world. Hopefully not.

The problem might be your lot.  In the past, I have successfully solve this problem by moving the household to clipboard, bulldoze house and rebuild house, then move household back in.

I just moved the household prior to experiencing this issue. Although I haven't experienced it lately. I hope it won't recur because the whole moving the household out and back again can be a bit tedious.

Is the ownership of the bed set to anyone? I've never had this problem but I always set bed ownership right away for all household members including the butler.

Yes. All the beds that had this issue had set ownerships.

I had that problem, kept replacing beds (was happening to 3 beds in the house, randomly) and finally got rid of the butler - everything was back to normal.  I think that some butlers are just bugged... :(

I think it's the butler too because the sims who can't get into the bed keep having a thought bubble with the butler's picture in it.

I've been using all those mods you mentioned for some time prior to this issue.

Has the bed been 'made up' or not? You know, is the blanket pulled back, or is it tidied up?

If the bed is still in a 'messy' state, there's a possibility that the sim is prevented from using the bed because the butler is being pushed to "make bed", but for some reasons can't do it. This will block your sim's routing.

This explains why replacing the bed 'resets' the blocking, because new beds arrive always in a 'tidied' state.

I'm not sure how to fix this, because I never experienced it. But here's a suggestion: Pause the game, reset the butler's queue (IIRC possible using Nraas Master Controller), tell your sim to make up the bed, queue the next action (relax/sleep), then unpause.
