Hello Simmers, readers of patch notes, and other developers who just happen to be searching the internet for examples of how other teams are writing up their release notes!

We had a few issues we felt needed to be addressed sooner rather than later, and have tackled them in today’s patch! Many of these issues were brought forth by the community through the forums. We thank you for your efforts, your posts, and your focus in helping us create a better experience with The Sims 4.

Some bugs you might be keen to know were fixed: The “Eye and jaw width looks funky” bug! The “I can’t get married if my fiancé died” issue! And the “My Sims can’t age up anymore” bug.

The other issues which we have fixed are detailed below, and we are always dedicated to fixing performance and gameplay blocking issues in order to provide the best gaming experience possible. Please keep posting on the forums. We do read them and we are tracking issues that you are finding.  Thank you!

Crashes / Performance

  • Fixed an issue where the game could enter into an infinite load after all Sims in a household had died.
  • Fixed a performance issue resulting in too many hidden Sims being created for "just in case" scenarios. Resulting in a large number of Sims being loaded that were not needed.
  • Scrolling left in the Memory timeline will no longer freeze your game. Yea… we just… don't ask…
  • Fixed an issue that was caused by placing a Sim from the gallery into multiple households that could result in either simply causing the appearance to revert to the original Sims appearance, or could cause the household to become unplayable.
  • Fixed an issue that would result in the player being unable to place a Room from the Gallery if the room had been uploaded with a single plate of food.

Tuning

  • Fixed an appearance issue that caused Sims to incorrectly appear with small eyes and wide jaws on age up. This was a result of a modifier value being improperly ignored for one age group, that resulted in the value being incorrectly applied, and was exacerbated if a Sim moved into or out of that age group.
  • The grieving period is over… Sims can now attempt to marry again if their fiancé has died.
  • Players can once again tell their Sim to age up with a cake, regardless of the Auto Age setting. On a side note, I feel strongly as though I should have used the word irregardless, if only to anger my co-workers who contend that the word is not a word. I feel however, that it is a perfectly fine word, irregardless of their feelings.
  • Fixed an issue where Widows and Widowers were not being properly given their relationship status as Widows and Widowers.
  • Sims made from the same Gallery Sim will now properly populate the world as desired, rather than secretly kill off their clones before moving into the world.
  • Fixed an issue where Ambrosia was "sort of" allowing itself to be copied in Build Mode, however, while it was charging full price for the copy, it was only delivering an empty plate with FX.
  • Resurrected Ghosts by way of Ambrosia, will properly age up upon their return to the land of the living… which is unfortunate because they are just going to die again.
  • Fixed an issue with the Throw 5 Parties goal not counting thrown parties correctly, making it impossible to throw a party that would satisfy the Throw 5 Parties goal. We have thrown together a few lines of code, talked to all parties involved, and verified that it is once again possible to throw a party that satisfies the Throw 5 Parties goal.
  • Fixed an issue preventing Ghosts from showing up as valid targets in some Sim Picker dialogs, such as Write Love Email or Send Spam Money Request to.
  • Teens can now write Love Emails to other Teens.
  • Ghostly Repair will now satisfy the Repair an Object whim.
  • Added a venue wall speaker for the Spooky station into the debug catalog.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause a Sim to attempt to repair a working shower, if the broken shower was on the 2nd floor.

UI / Text

  • Manage households will no longer show empty households as a result of Sims dying from old age.
  • Fixed an improper string update which resulted in the 1st goal of the Writing aspiration informing you that you should "Read 1 Book at the Library," rather than the correct goal of "Beat Writer's Block". Odd that the writing aspiration had an error in the text.

Beat Writer's Block is back - does that mean they made writer's block easier to get?

Hallelujah! The face bug being fixed makes me thrilled. I'll have to test it to make sure, but my townies have all been virtually identical for a while.

I'm glad they fixed the throw 5 parties bug in the party animal aspiration.  Hopefully this means that the throw 3 parties of of silver or better and the other step that was broken is also fixed.  I won't be checking it anytime soon since I already completed the impossible parts with a cheat.

I really regret nixing a whole paragraph on easily getting writer's block for that Aspiration. I hope to hear it's easier to do for most people. Metro was unable to get it, and the more levels you gain the less likely it seems to appear. That's how it was before the first patch changed the objective description, though.. don't even know if it's been tuned at this point.

Hidden lights will be really helpful for my screenshots! Sometimes I'm moving lamps around and trying to keep them out of the picture :P

On The Sims forum people are reporting that this issue has not been fixed. :(  So I am still keeping my legacy on hold....

I was able to get it but it took a lot of trying. Basically the sim has to be out of fun and social and then stressed as well. This is really tricky trying to balance that without starving them or needing potty badly  :-\  He was a level 7 writer by then, it's a very hard goal for sure.

Theoretically, the best way to achieve it is to have a sim with the Tormentor trait (from the Master of Mischief aspiration) sabotage the aspiring writer. Another good way should be to get the writer to be dazed (for example, by using the voodoo doll on him); Enraged should also work, but it's harder to achieve and is dangerous.

I didn't test either of those, though. This is based just on what reduces the Writing effective skill level the most.

The issue is that writer's block works as a need, one that drains whenever the sim is writing and fills at every other time; when the sim reaches zero on that hidden need, bam, Writer's Block. But the drain rate is affected by the effective level in Writing, and at 10 I believe that hidden need stops being drained at all.

@ DarkWalker, I guess the problem is when your writer is the legacy founder and/or the only sim in your house. Then it becomes really hard to actually get writers block. I tried dazed by drinking 2+ coffee which also produces dazed but that didn't help. Did you look at coding to understand how writers block works like a need? That would make sense because at level 7 it took hours and hours of writing before my sim got writers block.

Tunings, actually, but yeah, that was from looking at the game files. The hidden need is commodity_Buff_Object_Writing-WritersBlock , which "decays" (i.e., removes the writers block) at 0.41667/minute. The sim needs to get 200 points of that writers block hidden need go be struck with the Writers Block moodlet.

I'm not completely sure how fast the sims accrue writers block points, though. They seem to gain those points at 0.81/minute while writing, though I suspect the decay is still in effect, for a net gain of 0.39333/minute at skill 1. Those points also appear to be reduced by the effective level of the Writing skill, up to a 60% reduction at level 10. Being inspired further reduces how fast sims get Writers Block (and, in fact, might, for practical purposes, make it impossible to get even at low levels).

If it works like I suspect, it means that sims with writing skill 8 or above are for practical purposes immune to getting Writers Block unless something is artificially reducing their effective skill levels, and sims with a effective skill level of 7 (such as a sim with Writing 10 kept dazed or enraged during the whole process) need two days writing nonstop to get it. And I do mean non-stop, every minute not writing requires about 6 minutes to make up for the lost time.

Thanks for the details DarkWalker! Once again your knack for interpreting the code saves the day :D

Well, if Carl was truly able to get writer's block by practicing writing for five hours with a lv10 writer, it means I was off this time. The tunings seem to indicate practice writing induces writer's block at the same speed as writing a book, and even if the "decay" is disabled while a character is writing, it should still take about 10 hours for a sim with writing 10 and no emotion to get writer's block if I did read the data correctly.

The alternative would be for the practice writing interaction to have something extra in order to ignore the writing level and cause writer's block more easily; the 5 hours figure is more or less in line with how long it would take for a lv1 writer to get writer's block according to the tuning file, so that might be it, but I couldn't find any indication of that in the files.

I'm still quite certain it works as a hidden need, mind, I'm just not sure anymore about how fast it changes.

I wonder if the latest patch has changed this. In both my dynasty testing saves my writer was able to easily get writers block by writing two children's books in a row. Just like that! Incredible considering the drama I've had to go through before <shrugs> He was level 0 when he started writing and his emotion was 'fine'.
