Refining comedy routines

I read in the comedy guide that Sims can refine their comedy routines on the computer starting at level 5.  My Sim as level 10 comedy skill and I still don't see an option on the computer for her to refine a routine.  So far she has written a short and long routine, but when I go to comedy, the only options I see are to write more routines.  Does anyone know how to do this?

ClayMask, have you performed the routines you're trying to refine? I had to perform a routine before I got the option to refine it.

Thanks.  She hadn't.  Now that she's performed it, she has does have the option.

Oh good, I couldn't work out why my sim could refine some routines and not the others. I thought maybe they could only refine three or something. Good to know it's because I haven't performed the others.

Talk about nuanced! That's one of the things that I love about this game, but at the same time worry that I won't discover everything before there's an update via expansion pack. Good information, thanks MarianT!

What does refining a routine actually do?

It makes an okay routine good, and a good routine excellent. It also raises the amount you'll get in a tip for the routine. I think Metro's article has the exact amounts for short, medium, and long routines.
