Incompetent Police
« on: October 23, 2010, 12:13:34 PM »
Hi again,

My teenager was out after curfew and the police went and picked him up. I was doing some tests with gardening and they drove back to his house where a burglar had just entered the scene and he stole two expensive cars. It would not let me call the police because one was already there for a different purpose.

Police on sims seems to be bit goofy sometimes. Just today I had my teenager girl visiting her friend's house, when it was past curfew and she was still inside her friend's house. It was around 10-11pm and police came to the door and took my kiddo away because "she was breaking the curfew by being in the house of her friend after the curfew". Bit funny because her friend's family didn't even say stuff like "it's getting pretty late perhaps it's time to leave?".

And another instance few days ago, I didnt have burglar alarm on my house so when a burglar came I called the cops and a cop came and beat the burglar senseless with no problem at all when he was inside my house and then "I am sorry, it looks like the burglar got away better luck next time" etc. even though the cop seemingly DID beat him to a pulp etc.

Sims must have psycic police since they can sense that the teenager inside a house does not belong to the household, it happens even when they visit family members. Since police are chosen for their supernatural abilities and not for being strong and fast they can rarely catch burglars. Just my theory.

I had a burglar rob my sims house, so I called the police and fought the burglar a bunch of times to keep them occupied while the police arrived. When the police got there he said "sorry but the burglar seemed to have gotten away". And the worst part was that the burglar was standing right next to him.

I know it doesn't make any sense, but that's how it happens sometimes.  Really, the best thing to do is get a burglar alarm for your Sim's house.  Then when a burglar comes, he freaks out from the alarm going off and the police are able to catch him.

It`s important to stick the burglar alarm outside, so the burglar is in trouble before he even sets a foot in the house.

Oh!  That's a good idea.  I didn't think of that.

I`ve always done that. Since the switch from TS2 to TS3, my first reaction was "Woo! I can stick the burglar alarms outside now!"

A another good idea would be to do the walls next to the gate thing that Jon Lessen has and stick the burglar alarm there.

Well, the police are pretty sharp when it comes to curfew violations.  If a child or teen is not on their home lot (or a friend's lot who has given them permission to sleep over) and does not have an adult from the household with them, they will be caught and escorted home 100% of the time.  Sometimes they get caught immediately, sometimes it takes a while...but it always happens.  I have tested and proven this with my "homeless teen" experiment.

However, while underage sims are no match for them, the police are very "hit or miss" when it comes to burglars.  Even with a burglar alarm, the likelihood of the burglar escaping is about 50%.  I've even had brave sims beat a burglar down (one time they beat him down twice), only to have the police officer show up and get manhandled by the burglar.

I was living in an all outdoors house except for the bathroom. I was thinking, I probably don't need to buy a burglar alarm for a while, because what are the chances that they will rob my house soon again? Apparently pretty high. Two days later I got robbed. You better believe I got an alarm on the outside after that.

Since when do children get escorted home by the police? I thought the parents go out and get them, and they have to follow the parent home. None of my rebellious teens have gotten caught by the police (yet). I think the rebellious trait reduces the risk of the teen getting caught being out past curfew.

You had to do that in Sims1, otherwise the police wouldn't get to the house in time and the burgler would get away. The best thing was to stick two on each front corner of the house, so as soon as a burgler set foot on the plot the alarm would go off. The burgler would still go into the house to steal things but the police would have enough time to arrive and catch the burgler.

Since then I've always put the alarm outside the house.
