Looking forward to it although it looks like just getting ambrosia is going to be tough enough.

I've been testing this for two days with a super busy household (five sims all fishing, gardening, and cooking) and I'm nowhere close to the skill level needed. The problem I'm encountering more than any other is the fact they won't sit to read the skill books for long enough to get their skills up. My cook does nothing but cook and she's at level 5 after two real life days. My gardener doesn't have the graft ability yet (but that's coming pretty quickly now that I've turned off need decay).

Timing is so different in TS4, and it's one of the only real complaints I have about the game. Some things take too long and other things don't take long enough to be reasonable, but most of all it's frustrating trying to manage needs, careers and aspirations all at the same time.

I'm not running a timing mod, but it might be time :-/

Becki, if you're planning to run the timing mod to prepare for the Immortal Dynasty, I'd advise against it. Typically Metro's challenges -- including the Immortal Dynasty -- don't allow any mods at all, at least if you're going for a Hall of Fame entry. But I'm sure that he and the other people on the team are experimenting with how long things take. The idea is for a challenge to be difficult, not impossible.

I ran (and will run again) the Sims 3 with almost no modifications whatsoever. The exception was default replacements for eyes and skins. Thus far I'm finding TS4 very difficult to play without certain adjustments. Right now all I have is the aforementioned default replacement (just the eyes) and the lighting mod (which doesn't affect anything except the brightness of the rooms so I can see my sims).

The sims I'm testing with all started out as Young Adults. There will be obvious differences in the time available to complete a challenge if the sims completing it start as children or teenagers.

Some things are getting easier (completing childhood aspirations, for example), but skilling still seems to take more time than it should, especially considering the micro-management to keep them at those books.

I have a question about cooking skill books I'll pop into the appropriate forum.

Things are progressing nicely with the rule set. I just wanted everyone to get that positive update. However, after talking with Carl in vent during a Diablo III session this morning we are wondering if November 1 is a realistic unveiling date for the Dynasty if more bugs are not fixed by then. Players could experience lots of heartache if they cannot even complete Aspirations, etc. The plan is for a November 1 release, but I just wanted to let everyone know that may change. I will keep in close contact with the rest of the team as far as what what could potentially be game breakers given what we are setting players out to do.

It seems that in most cases there are workarounds for bugs relating to Aspirations. So far in every case it's been an issue with wording, not in the possibility of completing the tasks (if you know what they are). For example, my writer sim did complete "read one books at the library" by getting and beating writer's block.

These bugs are small, all in all, but the chances are that the patch intended to fix them are going to bring more bugs to the game :-/

The workarounds may exist but they need to fix it so everyone is on the same page and is clear. Otherwise the workarounds become inside information. It reminds me of the Guitar Star Challenge in Sims 3. How do you complete it? Do you do what the game asks and play guitar at 10 different venues? Nope. You complete any 10 guitar skill opportunities. Inside information. But, Writer's Block was weak to begin with for an Aspiration Milestone component because it was vague. "Write 2 books" or "Read 1 book at the Library." Who does not understand those and know what to do? You may understand now that Writer's Block happens after you grind a Sim for awhile until they are tense. But, that is not readily apparent to all players.

I am very excited for the new challenge! I never completed an immortal dynasty in sims 3, doubtful that I ever will. So I look forward to trying this one!

Squee I sense a new Dreamweaver Dynasty in the making! Can't wait to read whatever you do with the ruleset when its available, Pam! And take all the time you need Metro cuz I love reading the ID's (too scared to try one myself) and there's nothing worse than one that ends abruptly halfway through because of unforeseen bugs affecting the rules!

There's currently no workaround, at least that works for me, to get the goal of throw 5 parties done for the second milestone in the Party Animal aspiration.  Apparently, the most recent patch broke it.  There may also be problems with completing the milestones later in the aspiration.  Just wanted to let you know of that one in case you hadn't heard of it.

Edit:  I don't think this or other bugs should delay the dynasty.  It's my guess that when they fix the current bugs, more will be created.  When they release new content, still others will be created.  Maybe there could be a section about current bugs and any known workarounds, though?

Yes, I've got the new Carina Dreamweaver ready and she will most definitely found the new Immortal Dynasty Challenge.  I've been playing and her descendants while working on the Guide articles for children and teens.  She's adorable!  She and Don Lothario made a fine looking family.  For some reason, it greatly amuses me that she married Don.  That's her in my new avatar.

I'm so happy! I played several dynasties in the sims 3, although I never completed one... I hope I'll be able to do so in the sims 4. I'll be looking forward to playing, thank you all so much for bringing the Immortal Dynasties to the sims 4!

I am glad you're excited for the upcoming IDC. Pam and Carl have both had a sneak peek at the rules and are excited as well. If the challenge is properly promoted I feel it will bring more traffic to the forum which we all know is a good thing.
