My married couple are no longer married
« on: September 25, 2014, 05:20:30 PM »
I have been playing Nancy and Geoffrey Landgraab in Sunset Valley and suddenly they they are no longer married.  There are romantic interest hearts in the relationship panel.  It still shows Malcolm as their son.

Is there a way for me to retrieve their marital status.  I have no options under romantic for proposals.  I looked under the family options in Nraas but only see adding a sibling or parent.

I had an incident where Nancy was invisible, so I just changed her clothes via the dresser, I don't think it happened at that point.  I also used the plan outfits for all of them and I noticed the relationship just after that.  Other than that I can't think of anything that may have happened to change this status.  The game didn't have any glitches that I saw.  I just don't know how this happened.

Hi Pam, I do have an older save, but it's a full day's work back.  I realize it'd be the easier way but I'd come a long way today.  I'd rather not go back if there is another way.

Here's hoping...

Do you have any Break Up or Divorce options?

It's a pain, but if you have that, you can try breaking off the relationship, then use testingcheatsenabled true to max out the relationship so they aren't enemies anymore, plus remove the various moodlets from breaking up. Then, you could do romantic interactions to put them BACK into a relationship and see if it will let them re-marry.

Save before doing any of that though! I also advise backing up your previous save (load it and do a save as).

Hi Khaine,  thanks.  I do have both backed up.  I'll try what you're suggesting.  I didn't look for those options.  I will.  I'll let you know.

...later...I had no problems.  Because I already had the romantic interest moodlets, I just had to use several romantic options until they could have a wedding and re-marry.  It worked.  The son wanted to congratulate them.

Any ideas as to how this marriage got misplaced?  Another weirdy.

The only thing I know of that causes this is the kiss and make up interaction that came with Uni, it is bugged and resets the relationship to romantic interest.

Happened to me a couple of times now so I avoid it, the first time I made the sims do it and was shocked when it changed their relationship but after looking it up it is a known bug, I've only seen it used autonomously once but I had made my immortal founder argue with her dead husbands ghost for a story screenshot and it goes against her character so she autonomously used it straight after, before that he was shown as fiancee because it's what the game does after they die but after it he got set back down to romantic interest.

If you have Uni I guess it's possible one of them used it autonomously causing your problem.

Hi Turoskel,  thanks for that.  I appreciate it.  I've never had a couple argue so I've never seen that option.  Maybe they argued while I was with the child and didn't see them.  I'll have to pay attention to that.   I think I'll do a test and just to see it for myself.  Sounds like a definitely a 'do not use' option on purpose.

I just put it down to another oddity with Sims 3. :)

Glad my suggestion worked though!

I started another test town and used the Landgraabs again.  Geoffrey is family oriented and Nancy isn't.  She was the one with the kiss and make up option.  I used the argue and and then the kiss option, and lo and behold their relationship changed to romantic interest.  So it is in fact, what happened.  In my case, it had to have been done autonomously.

Now we all know.  Good thing it was easy to fix (getting married again, so to speak - lots of couples do it) ;)  Might as well enjoy the benefits too.
