If you send another sim away from the lot, and just tell your mixologist sim to work on mixology while you are gone, you don't have to micromanage so much making all those drinks, nor does it cost you anything.

I send my collector off either collecting or fishing/collecting and set my chef/mixologist to making drinks but it seems like he stops after three drinks.  I have to go back to him by giving him control and resetting the mix drinks thing.  Ditto with the school child who will finish her basic homework but will stop working on the extra credit stuff once Mom is off the lot.  I've tried queuing a bunch of tasks for the stay at homes but once they are out of sight they just do their own thing.  So it's a chore getting him past level 9 mixology.

Yes, it's annoying that they don't stay on task. If you use the away action 'improve skill "x" ' on your at home sims while you're at the gym or something, it seems to keep them skilling a little longer. The at home sims inevitably end up asleep or off task regardless. I use the 'away' actions often and that seems to move their skill bar noticeably. Sometimes, no matter what I do though the at home sims just seem to do nothing useful.

O.K., quick update on Shadow Realm. My ghost mixologist can't make the drink either. It's still there in the drinks list but shaded out. I'm now going to see if it's linked to a ghost that has completed the mixology aspiration.
 
It's not linked to ordinary sims completing the mixology aspiration because I've tried that.

If anyone else knows, make a post! I'm starting to think it might be bugged!

The Shadow Realm drink now Requires the mixer to have a Death Flower to create. However i still don't know what it does...

Yeah , so the greyed out after the last patch was due to death flower requirement ( that is not shown in the list). I just mixed one with death flower but the drink is still crap. For foodies you will get uncomfortable +1 ( disappointing  drink moodlet), for the rest happy +1.

So does the drink resurrect sims then seeing it uses a death flower? Have you tried a ghost drinking it. I can't be bothered to grow plants in TS4, it just takes too long. I wish there was a way of cheating them.

The Shadow Realm requires a "death flower" to mix,
and this drink is for Grim Reaper!

I happened to mix one Shadow Realm and left it inside the house
while one of my Sims was killed by the cow plant
(there was a purple notification that my sims can't escape the cow plant).
Then, the Grim Reaper went inside the house and drank the shadow realm.
After that, the sims that was eaten by cow plant came back.

I think this might be how the Shadow Realm works.

Anyone who tries out please share to confirm.

Interestingly, we now have ghosts. My mixologist is no longer able to make Shadow Realm drinks. The drink is still an option on the list. 'Make a drink' but it's grey, and there's also an empty speech bubble connected to it. I guess you want a ghost in the lot, maybe?

*Edit No, now I have a playable ghost in that family and still can't drink and haven't seen what the speech bubbles are saying.
