Girl Doll Dressed (5/12/11)
« on: October 17, 2010, 08:00:28 PM »
The viral Girl Doll Dressed is back in my Buy listing. I recently downloaded several house lots from our contests, and I think it's possible that someone had unknowingly attached the virus to their upload.

If you have been uploading or downloading those lots, please check your Buy toy section in case you've got it too.

I want to make members aware that just because we don't use CC in the contests, doesn't mean the files are clean.

It's an item known for wrecking havoc on games, and causing problems during updates. (I think.)

This thread explains that the item was attached to some tattoos on the exchange. I just downloaded a few tattoos for the first time a few days ago, so that may be where I got the item.

@Sophie: there's an item of custom content that can sneak its way onto your computer and cause harm to your Sims 3 game.

If someone has it, to remove it completely, open your launcher, go to the installed content, and delete it uninstall it from there. Also, go to your DCBackups folder, and delete the file 0x038a68fe04da61a6aa65f939d77fbc37.package from there as well.

edit: correction

From the official website:

If you have an object called "Girl Doll Dressed" in the Installed Content in your Launcher, please uninstall it.
To delete the file: 0x038a68fe04da61a6aa65f939d77fbc37.package, go into your DCBackups (C:\Documents and Settings\your name\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\DCBackup), find the file and delete it.
If you had that file in your C:\Documents and Settings\your name\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\DCBackup folder, this may have attached itself to your exports. If you had that file and recently exported content to your Launcher, delete that content from your Export folder and your Launcher.

Does anybody know how this started? Is it actually a doll? Or is it a virus? Was it done deliberately or was it a mistake?

It's both.  It's a doll and it's a virus.

I've never downloaded tattoos. The first time around I ended up with it after I downloaded a house from the exchange. Now the only thing I download is items from the EA store. I got very tired of uninstall/reinstalling.

I thought tattoos would be as safe as patterns. I was wrong. Lesson learned. :)

It was made by mistake I've heard; some heavy glitching were to blame.
We don't allow CC to be put on the forum, but this is different since it can be downloaded through stuff which doesn't have the doll and you can 'infect' others by uploading stuff even though you didn't upload the doll itself. If you find this in your files, then please remove the possibly infected objects from the exchange and in case of contests, re-link to a CC-free house. I at least won't blame anyone who confesses that he/she is unknowingly affected, but please do look for it if you've downloaded something from the exchange.

LlamaMama - please let EA know that this item was again attached to one of the files you downloaded from the exchange.  EA thought they wiped this item from being attached to other items on the Exchange but I hear some folks still have it in their files.  There are several new and current threads on the official site, but I recommend you post what item you downloaded that you think the doll was attached to in this thread.
More information for those that don't know about the doll:
It was originally made by Rebecah from a popular mod site last April. If you have this doll (her 1st version) in your game (check in kids section in toys if you downloaded it separately) she will attach to every house, household, patterns, objects, clothes and tattoos that you upload to the exchange.  Then it will transfer to other people who will then accidentally give to others etc. It can slow down your game and can possible corrupt your gameplay, but it is not a virus - just a very corrupted custom content item.
Here is the picture of the doll:

Here is what it looks like individually in your launcher (picture is from another source):

Downloading just the doll is fine now from what I have read on other forums as only first version was broken. But this old doll is still attached to many items on exchange. So check everything that you download to protect your game.

I guess because someone could not spell or maybe it is spelt that way in another language  ???
I copied that picture from another site that gave permission to pass the information around.  I don't download any custom content from mod sites, so I never had this issue.  I also use a program that opens all downloads and finds corrupted content which I get rid of before I actually download an item into my game.
