This is what I've been doing for a while :-/ I probably should have said something sooner, but I didn't realize that it was a widespread problem. The "play" button works fine for me most of the time, but when it doesn't, I back out to the main menu and use my backup save file.

I've been using the Load Game icon since day one after I lost my first save game.
