Best job for making money and/or finding collectibles
« on: September 09, 2014, 05:28:00 PM »
What's your take on that question?  Which job or "self work", will give the most cash and/or help with finding collectibles?  Can any job find them all?  Like, can a gardener go into space for space rocks?
What?  Grannies can't play games?
I speak perfect Nooblik, (and some Simlish)!

I find that paintings sell ridiculously well.  From a few hundred to a few thousand for a small classical of excellent workmanship.  I can also crank out a several a day.  But this is also the only non-traditional career path that I have tried.

Writing can deliver an obscene amount of money.  My pure writer is making 3+ grand a day, and she's still in the adult phase of her life and at level 9 of writing.  Bestselling screenplays go for 500 a day in royalties, and I can have her write 2 a day and still have time to socialize and work.

And yes, anyone can go into space, but buying the spaceship is 5 grand, and then another 1,000 just to build it.  Upgrades to make it a *good* spaceship will run you another 6-7 thousand.  And then it adds to the bills, because of how expensive it is, so don't rely on it making money!

Yea, once my Spaceship was fully maxed out my bills sky rocketed. I wasn't sure till reading MissTrips post, but the correlation clicked afterwards.

I thought i would make good money in the boss branch of the criminal carreer (about 12,000 simoleons each week). Then my sim just made a paint worth 10,000 + simoleons in 2 hours. I dont know if this is a bug...
She is not creative nor perfeccionist, she does loves art and has the visionary and markeatable rewards. She doesnt even have those unlocks from the paintor carreer.
She was making paints worth 2 thousand, than she got pregnant and boom! In one afternoon she draw 3 masterpieces worth 8,000 , 8,000 and 10,000 (3 weeks worth of salary from her job as criminal boss).
Im currently considering to quit this silly job hehehe.

If it is a bug, it's happening in my game too. My painter sim can make pieces as low as 600-700 and upwards of almost 11,000 was near the highest. Then with marketable it sold for somewhere around 17k I think. She has Loves Art, Perfectionist, Marketable and Creative Visionary.

Is there any job/career which goes well with gardening (and/or fishing)? Except for the fact that you make tons of money with painting and writing.

Mood seems to have an impact on value of paintings as well.  If she'd just had a baby, she would have had a long term happy buff and along with other buffs, you might have been painting with Very Inspired or Very Happy, etc.

I am almost always "Very Inspired" while painting. First I take a "Thoughtful Shower", then go to the computer and "Research Art References"(only when in the Painter career), then "View Inspired Work" on one of my career rewards and then "Gather Inspiration"(Another Painter Career ONLY action) and I'm Very Inspired for quite some time.

I've had success with maintaining without a job just using gardening and fishing to survive. Although my sim like most full time gardeners was outside more than in and perfectly happy with that. So he was completely low maintenance and had the very basics inside. If I had to pick a career that pairs well I would say Chef only due to then you have tons of ingredients and save yourself lots of money.

I thought you still have to pay for the meal whether you have the ingredients or not?

I don't believe so I am not near my game to test but that may also depend on how much ingredients you have and if your making different size meals.

Yes, you still have to pay roughly 80% of the original price of your meal.

Thank you, I will try to make my Sim a fulltime gardener/fisher thought he might become sad (or depressed) from not having a 'proper' job.
