Fishing and Bait
« on: September 09, 2014, 12:31:04 PM »
So far I've found that you can catch Catfish using Basil and Potato as bait.

Anyone have any other baits for particular fish?

I've been playing around with the fishing skill but haven't been able to uncover any bait options (it doesn't seem as easy as it was to keep track of the bait as it was in Sims 3).

I'm sure this will be covered in the fishing guide once it's published, but can anyone recommend a few fishing spots that have other fish besides the common finds (minnow, perch, tetra, salmon, bass, etc.). My sim has been trying to make a career out of fishing, but the money has been less than stellar.

Thanks!

The two 'hidden' areas have two rares that can only be caught there, and they have things I don't recall seeing in other spots.

Unlike sims3, they don't have specific baits.  Some fish will take any organic bait, while some prefer small baits (as in small fish).  The best fishing spots i found are the 2 hidden areas and the 2 main parks in each world.

Once you hit a certain level in fishing, like 3 or 4, you can Examine Water at a fishing spot and it will tell you what kind of bait to use. Usually it's either anything organic (I have used cherries, black berries, onions etc) or small fish.

For the record, I did catch a treefish in the round pond at the park in Willow Creek, so it's not true that the rare fish can only be caught in the hidden lots.

Some fish seem to need certain bait though, I think, because when you use a strawberry to catch a catfish it says in the fish descriptor in the inventory "Bait-Strawberry". Whereas other fish caught when using a strawberry don't mention bait at all. Same with catfish and apple. It's all pretty confusing.

I've caught with apple, perch, tetra, minnow,salmon,catfish, and bass so far but it was only catfish that had apple as bait in the descriptor.

These are the following bait types I remember seeing so far:

-organic (what I assume to be a plant / vegetable);
-expensive;
-small fish;
-medium fish;
-frog.

Has anyone come across any other baits? Also, it appears you lose your bait after catching the first fish, but not if you catch a random object (my fisherman has caught two violins, go figure).

What have been your best selling fish? I found two sturgeons in Oasis Springs worth over $2k each. I did catch two other sturgeons as well, but they were only worth a couple of hundred.

And I caught a cow plant berry in the little pond outside the hidden area in Oasis, at L3. Could mood matter? She was confident ...

Welcome to our Forum, Hechicera.

For those that have caught catfish, do you remember which fishing spot you caught the catfish?  It is a common catch, but my max level fisherman can't seem to get any.  I am also missing the tilapia and rainbow fish, anybody got luck fishing those up?

In my first game, I had some trouble catching catfish and I caught no tilapia or anglerfish at all. I Had maxed out my fishing skill and I tried just about everywhere. In my current game, I was not maxed out on skill (7 I think) when I caught tilapia in the river in sylvan glade. At the same time I caught my anglerfish in the pond. As for catfish, I keep catching them everywhere in willow creek now.

Based on that, I believe it is random on a game-to-game basis. So that's my theory. Any other thoughts on that?

I caught my catfish on the "beach" at Willow Creek, using potato and basil.
I caught a rainbow fish in the Sylvan Glade river.

Thank you Brotte and dnagirl, I am going to try those places now.  I hope its not game-to-game basis, I'm about to smash the wall, frustrated with sims4 fishing and collecting.

Oh my, Brotte you are absolutely right.  My current game I just could not catch any catfish, so I started new game with new sim, and got catfish in a few minutes.  This is game-to-game basis.

Ugh.  No wonder I'm having such issues getting all the fish.  Trout!!!!!  I can't catch a silly trout!
