Yes apparently the graphic card I have likes to steal RAM from my other stuff, and eventually just stops. I couldn't move people out of my house a little bit ago, and I guess that was a warning.

Huh. I guess you must have to pass a certain threshold on RAM demand before it starts stealing RAM. Otherwise you would've known a lot sooner. At least until you get the computer running the Sims again, you can set a new record for not using cheats.

Very true NeoFelis! I can safely say I won't be cheating today lol. Or tomorrow for that matter! Or the next day, or the next. Ok, I'll stop now!

Ok I'm getting ready to get my new graphics card. I found a cheapish one but I want the technical people here to check it out first to make sure it will work. I took screenshots of what it says. Will this run my sims?

When my husband gets home from work in 2 hours I'll have him take a look at the specs, as I have no idea and rely on him in this department.

I cannot run more than the base game (not even the first patch) on my husbands PC, which runs Vista. My husband thinks my problem is with Vista as all the inner parts of the computer are new since this summer. Maybe I'll try the gems in this thread tomorrow. I'm really excited to have a couple new ideas to try. Thanks Esther and Gerrr!

Sounds pretty sweet! I am easily persuaded by exclamation marks and high numbers so I always have my husband look at computer parts before I buy them.

So then hopefully tomorrow, or fairly soon, you should be able to take it for a test drive. Fingers crossed that it fixes your problems.

Yea me too maybe I shouldn't have been so hasty! I could have chosen 1 day shipping but that would have added about $20 bucks so I went with the slower one but considering I have my sisters computer to play on, I wanted to save money! If I didn't have that, it would have been here tomorrow lol.

Esther, my husband at a look at the specifics of your new graphics card and rated it an "ok, it'll do."

Keep in mind he's an avid gamer and therefore has to have the best (when I 'allow' new computer purchases) He said it was about the same as my Mac laptop, which is a year old. I have Ambitions installed on it and everything ran great on medium to high graphics settings in-game until the LN patch. I don't have LN yet but since the patch I've had to turn 2 settings down a notch to maintain the same quality of functioning.

So, all in all, it should be able to handle Sims 3 + EPs. At least that's what I'm told. It might depend on what your in-game graphics are set as.

  I'm so embarrassed! I checked my DEP but I found another way to do it last night and I did it and it must have fixed it! I can now play on my computer again!! I should have saved my $30 and bought FL and LN!! I played an hour last night and a couple hours today with no problem! My face is really red right now!!

I educated my husband on DEP today (downloading from EADM didn't solve the problem so on to the next idea) with Wiki and guess what?! I found it on the PC and showed him (not the other way around!!) how to access it. *Struts around the room all proud of herself*

He then figured out how to fix the problem with the Sims 3 by switching OFF the DEP for all the individual Sims 3 launchers and games matching the SPs and EPs I have. So far so good. Everything seems to be running just fine now. YAY!!
