Trouble harvesting plants away from the home lot
« on: September 06, 2014, 12:41:57 AM »
Has anyone had trouble harvesting plants not on or near their home lot?  My gardener sim can harvest plants in her immediate neighbourhood, but not from places she has to travel to. She lives in Willow Creek an the block Potter's (something). She can wander around and harvest plants on that block, but I'm trying to get a few plants from Oasis Springs that she doesn't have. I know that you need to visit a lot to trigger the spawn points, but she goes to these lots every day and looks. The only option she ever has is to look at the different plants. She does this and sometimes there is also the option to talk to the plant, but they don't appear to be growing any bigger than they were when she first went there.. one is a tree, but it is still only the size of a shrub.

I eventually had to get high enough gardening to take cuttings of plants, and it was necessary to make many all nighter visits to the lots with pears, cherries, blackberries, lemons... in order to get those. I got 'lucky' with sage and was able to harvest it.

After playing several more game weeks, the pears have finally become harvestable in places. I have the reward for not needing sleep (first one I bought), and I tend to stay out all night when gathering, and for the 5am rollover so I can double-gather on dig sites. I am not sure that this helps with plant growth, but I tell myself it does.

I still haven't been able to harvest from the pear trees. I've visited the lot four times now and stayed until my sims was starving and stinky etc. I don't know if it is a bug in my game or if it just takes quite a bit of time.  :-[

My sim has been visiting the various lots since almost the beginning of the game and she has just turned into an adult and still these plants have not produced any fruit. I too have had her stay there almost all day with no luck. She has just reached level 8 of the gardening skill and can now take cuttings, so I've had her take a cutting of all the plants I don't have. I'll see what i can do with them to get the plants I need.

I can't figure out how to take cuttings either. My sim is at level 8. Is it an option that comes up when you click a plant?

Yes, now when she clicks on a plant, she has the option to take a cutting and when she is at home, she also has the option to graft.

Thanks, I can't seem to get those options to come up so I'll check again once I have restarted my game. I've been playing for so long today that I feel like I'm going cross-eyed.  :)

I'm also having trouble with the Oasis Springs plants.  I've finally been able to harvest sage, daisy and chrysanthemum but still no luck with lemon, blackberry or bluebells.  I think it might have helped that I had her view the ones she couldn't harvest, but who knows?

I can't harvest in Willow Creek, but I can in Oasis Springs. Unfortunately, Oasis Springs now is only spawning common plants, which is making this part of the game increasingly boring. I want more, but I'm stuck at the moment with the few plants I have.

Even ordering seeds is only bringing up the same old boring plants every time. I ordered fruits, but none came in the packets.

I still can't take cuttings. It must be a glitch because my sims level 9 now.

Other lots/Neighborhoods - Collectibles dont respawn, Plants dont grow
« Reply #10 on: September 16, 2014, 12:13:25 AM »
Ok, so as the title says, the collectibles on other lots are not respawning and the plants aren't growing past their initial stages(Except the Apple trees...).

Does anyone know if there is a way around this or some way to fix it?

This has come up before (trying to find the thread to direct you to it) Have you visited the lot and actually gone up to view the plants? You need to visit the lot on a few occasions and not just look around at things without your sim. Try interacting with the plants on different visits.

I have gone up and viewed them, but other than that, no I guess I don't spend much time if things havent respawned or grown any further. I'll see if that helps.

mm, can't find the thread I was thinking about, but found another one. I'll merge this with that thread.

Thanks Twin :) I'll post my findings once I spend some time at these other lots.
