Babies/Kids and Aging Up
« on: September 04, 2014, 12:06:59 AM »
I didn't see this asked or mentioned at all - do kids auto age up? I got the notice it was her birthday bit she's still just chillin' in her bassinet. I'm trying to just let things play out to see how it all functions but not sure if this is a glitch or if I need to tell the baby to age up, despite being told it was her birthday.

Overall liking Sims 4, a lot of things I miss too and things I am still trying to get used to. No newspapers! I always cancelled it anyway, but still! lol!

From Day 1, I had the option to Age Up my baby on purpose, but when I let it go, she aged up on her own. She did it in the morning the day after I got a notice that said, "It's almost (so-and-so)'s birthday."

The moment after a baby is born, you can click on it and select "age up." Just like that...

For children and for sims of any other age, any of the birthday cakes can be used to make them age up in the way that they were used in the Sims 3 (I believe at any time as well).

UPDATE: Sims do in fact age up automatically.

CORRECTION: There is a way to disable aging in the options menu. Below, I had incorrectly stated that there was not.

However, I am not sure if the birthday cake is actually the ONLY way to make them age up. If so, that would mean you could keep your sim at one age, or state of development, indefinitely, which actually might be nice since the "disable aging" feature from the Sims 3 is now gone. I'll update my response if I find out whether or not the sims age up automatically at any point.

I actually answered my own question. I went back into game and gave it a few more hours, (not sure how long it was since it felt like days but I'm not watching my clock at ALL so it may have been several hours), then I got the notice that "Leah has aged into a child" and she leaped/jumped out of the bassinet. I'm going to try the "Age up" option on the next child to see what happens - is there cake? Do they just age? We shall see!

I've discovered that when the parents are both gone, the baby automatically goes to daycare.  He just disappears from the bassinet.

Does the child gain anything by staying a baby until their birthday? In Sims 3 it might have a small benefit in that they could earn a few LTHPs by being in a very good mood from passive moodlets, but that was about it.

A word of caution for this game, if you choose not to throw a birthday party for your Sim who is aging up (aside from the baby to child stage) they will get a 12h +Sad moodlet because no one cared enough about them to celebrate!

You also have to bake your own cake and then click on it to add birthday candles in order to make it a birthday cake. Make sure you do that before you invite people over, because they will just get in your way while you're trying to do it.

So the birthdays are like the weddings, then, where you need the cake in advance?  Good to know.  I haven't aged anyone yet.

I like the "nobody cared about my birthday" moodlet you mentioned.  It seemed kind of sad that you could skip it in Sims 3 and there was nothing said or done about it.

If you go into the Gameplay section of Options, you can disable aging, either for your household, other households, or both.

I just had my first sim baby and must say that I really don't like it. First of all my female sim was pregnant in such a cartoony way that it was just ridiculous:

Second of all, my sim had her baby in the hospital and when she came back the baby was invisible in the basket. When she took it out to hug it, it looked like this:

After restarting the game, the baby was still glitched like that so I decided to have it grow up and then found out that there is no toddler stage :(. Toddlers were one of my favorite things in the Sims 3 so I am really disappointed about this z.z.

Yeah I have AMD and I always do that once I've started up a new game so it is already on high performance. Still got the glitched baby though. Everything else in the game looks just fine btw, it's just the baby!

Oh that's unfortunate!  Hopefully they patch it fast.  I'm amazed it wasn't picked up on, and if it was, why wasn't it fixed?

Looks about right to me. (As mom to a 2.5 year old and a 6 week old)

Yeah, I'm a Mom too and that's pretty much what happens.  :o

I'm sad there is no toddler stage too. Maybe a "generations" type expac in the future will bring it back.
