I'm still not sure what to think of the game. On the one hand I like it a lot. The way it looks etc. and I like the way build mode is now. but at the other hand, I am still learning the controls. They are a lot different from the former sims  games (even with sims 3 camera mode turned on).
Furthermore I'm missing the speed 4 button, I used that a lot in the sims 3.
I like the extra things you have to do for your sims' careers, although at this point I find it hard to complete it every day in a multiple sim household.
Also I am not used to just a base game version of the sims anymore :P when I started to play the sims 3, a lot of the expansions were already released. Looking forward to seasons and pets in the sims 4, those things I'm kinda missing. But of course this isn't very much of a valid thing to dislike this game for now :P

Something I do look forward to is new challenges in the sims 4 :) gonna start the legacy challenge tonight!

I hope when I feel more at home with the sims 4 (since the emotion system and all that is still something I try to get the hang of) that I will be more enthusiastic about the game.

Try checking your inventory on your sims Katluvr. I know my loading screens went to insane amounts of load time, partially due to the almost 1,000 items from gardening I had in there. Took me almost an hour to clean it out yesterday. The other thing I've noticed, is if I play for 7-8 hours and start going to other places, the load times pick up, so I started monitoring... as with all games, there is a slow memory leak with TS4, so it behooves you every once in a while to completely shut down the game and restart it for your load times. Hopefully those two things might help you out.

Thank you, EleLL!  I know my sims inventory was pretty clean - maybe 10 items or so - and the load screens were still miserably long.  There are times in game when my fps drops down below 10, so I'm not sure if my graphics card is the problem - I'm running a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti - which is an older card but I thought would still work pretty well.

I try and shut down and restart after no more than about 2 hours - partly because my back doesn't like it when I sit at the computer for long periods of time - and I noticed that screen loads are a bit better on restart.

For the Nvidia graphics set, you can get the Nvidia GeForce Experience, which is an Nvidia program (it may already be on your system, but if not, you can download it free from Nvidia itself) which will optimize your drivers for The Sims 4 and set the games settings directly for you without you having to fuss with it for optimal performance.

This Game really surprised me in both positive and negative ways. Mixed feelings about the unopened world, takes a bit of the fun, but with the m-a-j-o-r lagging problems of The Sims 3, I guess that's like putting pants on when you have people at home: like it or not, you got to do it.

On the bright side, socialization is WAY more interesting, as already pointed out; the metrics of jobs, skills, dates and the game as a hole gives you a sense of micro achieving which wasn't there at The Sims 3, where you had to play for (human/real life) hours until you actually accomplished something; the game is harder now, getting superrich, superfriendly or superskilled is not a "natural consequence" of playing as in The Sims 3, you must really work and plan for it; last but not least, wish management is much better, as it avoids the I'm-about-to-clean-the-dishes-but-can't-promise-it-without-erasing-one-of-the-4-highly-rewarding-promises-I've-already-made frustration.

The down side for me was mostly the graphics. The camera angles are a mess and the cartoonish look of the sims and objects (not a bad thing) is followed by - suprprise - a lack of over the top animations which are so fun in The Sims 3. Whohoo is the greatest example: in TS3 it's "come here, you're mine!", while in TS4 it's more like "I'm bored, let's whohoo/Yeah, why not?"

On a final note: change the pause button to [zero], really? You know 90% of mankind is rightly and, therefore, plays with the left hand on the keyboard, right? And the other 10% cannot enjoy this brilliant innovation if their playing on laptops without numerical keypads.

Pause is still 0 or ` (~) just like it was in Sims 3.

Maybe it's a glitch in my game, but '~' doesn't work for me. I actually notice me trying it sometimes, and then a bit later at a random moment in the game when I don't use any pause buttons, it suddenly pauses. I think it's a bug...

I've noticed the "~" doesn't work for me when I first start up a game. After dilly dallying around for a little bit in game it starts working again. P always works for me, though.

In my country's keyboards [~] is above the question mark, so if pause is
  • or [~] doesn't make much difference. In TS3 pause was in the key ['/"], on the left of [1], which doesn't seem to be the case in TS4.

Perhaps it's just a problem of the game's adaptation to my country's particularities, but, hey, we're just a bit more than 200 million, spending 8.4 billion in online commerce, so that's not a big issue.

It doesn't work for me either. Just fiddle around on the keyboard and finally you will find what buttons work for you. Also, I think it sometimes depend on what language you have the game installed on. I always play in English, but don't have an English keyboard, that can have an effect I think.

Something just popped into my head: I remebered that EA said that sims could get voluntarily maternity leave instead of a forced one. Yet I couldn't find anything about it. Also they told there would an autosave function. Maybe it's just me, but I can't find anything about that too.
I was kinda annoyed about that.
But so far it's pretty good.

Yeah, I heard that there was no maternity leave from some players on the forum. I haven't heard anything about a voluntary leave, so I don't know. If there actually isn't a way to get maternity leave, I'm going to be ticked off.

Why would you be ticked off? In this game, there's really no need for maternity leave.

The only major thing that disappoints me at this time, is that when you sims are in different zones (IE, one sim is at home, on is at a park) you only get to control one at a time. This feels like a real disadvantage. I miss the open world of Sims 3 where you could control multiple sims all across the world. I realize this issues is due to the loading screens and I will have to learn to accept it. I did notice that if you click the portrait of the sim you are not controlling, you can either switch to that sim, or select from a few options such as "Tend to needs" or "tend garden".

The small worlds don't really bother me. In fact I think it will make adding expansion content much easier. Instead of trying to squeeze all the new venues into one world, your sim will be able to travel seamlessly through all the future worlds. I really look forward to the addition of new towns.

I also find socializing to be much more enjoyable in this game. Truth is, in previous sim games, socializing always felt like a chore that got in the way. Now sims just drop in and call all the time. You can work on boosting your relationships with multiple sims at once. What I have been doing is inviting the same 5-6 sims over every other day and having a big social circle to keep them all above friend level. After I get the friendship boosted with all of them, I go back to skilling up.

The mini goals are a pleasant addition to the game. I like all the social events. I have done several, such as going on a date, throwing a dinner party, having a wedding, and a costume party. It is a really fun challenge trying to go for that gold level.

I think the only part that really bothers me compared to Sims 3 is the lack of story progression for families you aren't using. I used to like seeing what townies ended up together but now when I view the households in my 3rd generation, everyone still lives together as they did when I started but are just older. I've also noticed that townie families can only move into the really cheap houses, so the more expensive houses tend to stay empty.

Some of the little things I've noticed:

My foodie sim takes pictures of her plate as she's eating.  ;D
The fish now have a "freshness" meter, and it goes down over time. Quickly. Especially if you leave it in your inventory instead of the fridge.  :o
You can't eat the food from the plants you grow, they have to be cooked as part of a meal.
You can give the flowers you grow to other sims.
