Are there skill challenges for skills like in Sims 3, so you can supermax a skill by also completing the challenges? Or something else instead?

I haven't seen a skill challenge, per se, but skilling seems to be integrated into other aspects of game play in a that sort of fills that void. For example, instead of having Painting skill as a metric for the Artist career, your next promotion may be dependent upon raising the skill two more levels. Or, when I started a Comedian Sim, the first two requirements for completing the Comedian aspiration (not sure the name - "Joke Teller" maybe?) was to make 10 acquaintances and 5 friends.

Fitting that type of activity into a challenge ruleset will require some finesse, but as far as straight gameplay, the element is still there, I think.

If you're talking about something like oppertunities like they had in the Sims 3. I noticed that in The Sims 4 for my Culinary profession when I click on the Career tab it has stuff that says improve cooking skill and wash dishes 3 times.
When I get home from work or if maybe someone can confirm before that if maybe under the Skills tabs if they have something similar to what is under the Career tab?

No there isn't any skill challenges at all.  There is career promotion requirements, but that is not skill challenges (like in sims3).

There are also tasks for each aspiration. My musical sims have to spend 6 hours practicing an instrument and 4 hours listening to music.

Phew! I had put a post asking this question, but I saw this and quickly removed it. I didn't want to post a question which had been asked. Thanks for answering!  :D
I play The Sims 4 for fun, so I don't care if I never end up being interviewed for the Dynasty Hall of Fame; people who play for keeps burn out too easily and don't enjoy playing the games, so I am going to not sweat the details.

If you want to skill faster, keep in mind which emotion 'helps' the skill the most.  Like creative skills gain faster from being Inspired.  Logic skills go faster when you're focused, etc.  Also, if you can get lucky enough to befriend a mentor in a skill, then that will skill you fast as well.  Those can be hard to find and I've only found one in Fitness so far.
