Why do my sims always make group meals?

If I let my sims make food on their own they always make a group meal, is this because there's 2 sims living in the household?

I think the default autonomy has them make group meals all the time. If you want them to make a single serve, choose 'have...[meal]' instead of 'serve', and instruct them to do it instead of letting free will kick in. On the upside, if autonomy is high they will often put the food away and get leftovers out later.
