About the Minus Kelvin and Food replicator.
« on: October 05, 2010, 10:18:02 PM »
Ok, I didn't know if everyone knows this, but I just found out a few minutes ago. I "cheated" to get a minus kelvin fridge and I recolored it and put it downstairs. I then was like hmmm wonder what would happen if I used the eyedropper on it? It gave me another one! I did have buydebug active, but I can't find it in there! I also had a food replicator that I bought legit, so I did the same thing, got the same result! So now I have 2 fridges and 2 replicators! The fridge cost $4,000 and the replicator cost $10,000. I didn't know if that was known, so I thought I would make it known!  ;D

That's the whole point of the eyedropper.. to duplicate something. It's great when you recolour something that you are going to need a few of. Just buy one, recolour it and then use the eyedropper. You still have to pay for the duplicate, but it's already recoloured the way you want.

I think part of the surprise is that we can duplicate these "specialty" items.  They aren't available through regular Buy Mode, so many probably don't know they can be duplicated with the eye dropper.  I didn't really know, but I hadn't felt a need to try it, either.

Exactly! I knew what the eyedropper does, I just didn't know it did it with those things! I thought it was awesome!  ;D

Oh OK, I'd always just assumed that if it was on the lot, then the eyedropper would duplicate it.

I just tried to duplicate both the replicator and fridge and it said there is nothing here to duplicate.  So it doesn't work on mine and I have tried it on other specialty items and it didn't work either.  You are fortunate that it worked, because mine doesn't.  I have always tried it on these things and I assumed it didn't work because they are just that "rewards".  Glad it worked for you. :)

Esther mentioned she had "buydebug" on while she used the eyedropper, so maybe you did not?

I tried it tonight and I couldn't get it to duplicate until I had 'buydebug' on.   8) - cool!
Wow - Esther you taught me something else new about the game.  Thank you so very much.
Now my Top Chef Sims can have the top of the line appliances in their vacation homes too!    ;D

If I were to take a food replicator and store ambrosia in it, would it ever go bad?

I am on my sixth generation and ambrosia was put in there on the first generation, so I would have to say no.  I think those things are wonderful.  I started with 30 ambrosia, which reminds me, I am getting low, lol.

Once the recipe is stored, can my Sim just clean up the original? (My Sim cannot yet eat it, but the dynasty chef [Agnes] will die soon.) I want a way to preserve food for a long time without the Minus One Kelvin Fridge as the cook does not come until Gen 2.

I don't know for sure, but in my first attempt I went about getting the fridge legally so I put the original in a treasure chest. It was in there about a week or two before Chris got the fridge and it was still good.
