The ending of the sims 3 game

Not sure if this would be the place for this, I was thinking of putting it on the babble board, but it's about sims, so I figured here would be ok, if not please move to the appropriate place!
The other day my sister, her boyfriend and I were in the car. Robert made a comment about how can someone(me lol) play the same game for years as sims have been out for I think he said about a decade, maybe more. I quickly told him that although sims has been out for years, I only got hooked in 2009 so I've "only" been playing for 5 years. That statement made me realize how long I've really been playing. It doesn't feel like years honestly. With The Sims 4 coming out next month, I wanted to tell the creators of the game that they are doing a good job. Yeah I know TS3 had bugs, but I'm hoping for the best for 4! Also I wanted to tell Carl and Pam and all the moderators and all the members what an honor it was living the last 5 years with you. I guess I wanted to start this thread not only to thank everyone, but to also kind of get your favorite memories of the sims 3. I think my favorite part of the ride was all the awesome stuff the sims could do. A good day saw me playing my sims, helping them live life the way I wish I could. Bad days for me were also dark days for my sims lol. I'm looking forward to living the next chapter in sims with you all.

I think that what always keeps me coming back for more is that every time I start a new file, it's always going to be something new. Even if I've completed all the Life Time Wishes, I'm never going to play them with every single combination of traits or backgrounds. There's all sort of challenges that keep me interested, and over the years I've also discovered how fun building can be. I started playing in the late Sims 2 area, so probably around 2007/2008, so about 7 years. Personally, I play legacy/dynasties fairly frequently, which I've noticed usually takes about 3 months for 10 generations (esp. if I'm publishing it online).

I definitely know how you feel.

Sims is not really a game in the traditional sense, it's really a virtual doll house. That means it has unlimited replayablity. That's one of the reasons I like to seek out Let's Plays on YouTube, 'cause users really have some creative ideas for their Sims.

Long time, no see!  It's good to see you posting, Esther!

I'm not sure if it's the demise of the Sims 3, as you say in the title here.  This game will live on for a long time and as long as it does, we'll be here for it.  EA is only just now stopping their support of Sims 2, so we've still got a lot of time.  I'm trying to start another Dynasty, so I hope that I'll be able to find time for both games!

Looking back on my five years of playing Sims 3, I think my favorite things were all of the surprises.  Even when I thought I knew the game inside and out, my Sim would do something completely unexpected and make me laugh out loud.  There's always a surprise lurking around the corner to jump out at me when I don't expect it.  That's always great fun for me.

I get you about how surprising the Sims can be.   My own play goes a long way back; my dad was always fond computer and video games, and it was an interest he shared with me.  One of my fondest memories was playing Sims 1 (this is back in 2000...yes, the Sims is 14 years old), and having the 'computer people do stuff'.  We made the transition to Sims 2, enjoying how it expanded game, and graphics (and is one reason I really hate the non-inclusion of toddlers, and pools...I'm already invested in them).  When I first saw same-sex couples in the game, it blew me away because I could relate to that on a personal level...this was the first time I felt 'included' by a game. 

For me, though, Sims 3 is a bit bittersweet.  I'd long since graduated, and lived on my own by then, but game was one way me and my dad stayed in touch, and Sims 3 was going to be no exception.  Unfortunately, my dad passed away before the Sims 3 release...but I continue to play it, as I know he would have loved it, bugs and all.

Anyways, I won't bore anyone with this stuff, but it is amazing how a game can touch someone

This isn't all that surprising Esther1981.  I know people who always get the newest iteration of Madden, and it isn't like the game changes that drastically from one year to another

Due to the absurdly huge number of possible variables, the game can still make me go, "Wat" at times.

In my current playthrough, I have a Sim with a Criminal Career. It was his Birthday, and he had the Lucky Moodlet. His job progression was due for promotion, and he gets arrested. I could just imagine him sheepishly telling the Officer that it was his birthday as he went to jail...

This is the same Sim who had a Paparazzi die on two of his birthdays. Nothing quite like laughing over cake, then crying over it.

I'm like you, I only started playing the sims 3 for Mac less than a year ago, so I will be playing the sims 3 for a while and people will probably question why since 4 is out, but I haven't done/discovered everything in the game yet, so I'm sticking with it!
