yesterday didn't turn out to be uninstall day; however, as been started today. I've saved a copy of my sims 3 folder on my desktop to install later. as i reinstall each EP and SP, should I attempt to run the game or create a new game?

I personally always run the game once the base game is installed.

Then I don't bother again until everything else is installed.

We usually don't run the games after we install them. We just let them install one after the other, patching as we go. Once store stuff is installed then we can go into the game.

install went well! got it down over night last night. just go into the game and was able to save 3 times before getting error message 12. cleared out cache and stuff, just rebooted and going back in to see how things play. I've had the game up for a good while before got the error message.

I just wanted to confirm with you what your computer specs are. I'm hoping with knowing this, we can help the game to quit coming up with the Error 12.

grrrr... I haven't been able to save my game all day, not with "save" or "save as" I keep getting the error 12 message. I've cleared the files out and rebooted, then gone back but can't even use the renamed "current game.sims3" file. it just won't open.
i'm sad and frustrated.

Thanks for letting us know the the specs are correct.

Is it that you can not open/Play Sims 3 or that you can't open that particular saved game?

Would you mind maybe doing a test for us? If you're able to play the game. Create a new game in say Sunset Valley. For sake of a quicker test, pick a family out of the household Library. Play them for awhile and then Save As. If it goes well, play that family again. Save As again

I'm hoping this will give us an idea if your previous game save is corrupted some how.

Did creating a new game and playing a new family and Save As help any or you still getting Error 12?

i'm still getting error message 12 if I play for more than a few minutes; other times, sims 3 will stop working and close.

so far, I've been able to rescue my game twice by renaming "current game" folder and moving it to "saves" folder. this happens with the new family as well as the old family.

Let's try a few other things -

Lower the settings in The Sims 3. Turn off Advanced Rendering and Enable Object Hiding - make sure these are un checked. Set the detailed lots to 1 and putting all other sliders at medium settings.

If you are running the game at a high resolution, try lowering it to see if that helps.

This may not fully stop the error 12 from happening, but it may stop it from occurring so often.
