If what I posted above about trying to "share" family and their house to be made available in the Exports folder isn't clear let me know. I'll try to write up a better how to on that. I just totally realized I don't have personal notes on that. *Blush*

I usually don't use the library that much. I end up using the "share" save feature to where they go to the Exports folder, then I back them up to my Sims drive.

I've been trying to keep my libraries as clear as possible. No real reason, other than if the families/houses get saved in the library I might forget to save them and loose them if my game decides to not behave itself.

I think I understand.  I started sharing the family with house last night and the game stopped working in the middle of things so don't think it shared.  going back in this morning to try again.  you are so methodical and organized!  I'm amazed!

thanks!

Once I have them shared and in the exports folder, I assume I should remove them from the library?
thanks!

I don't think so. Unless you wanted them to be saved to your Studio on Sims3.com?  I don't know anything about saving things to the studio. I play in offline mode and don't do much with the site.

After my files are saved to the Exports folder, I move them to my Sims backup drive.

The houses (and/or sims) that you "share" appear in your Sims 3 Launcher. You can then click on the one you want to Upload to your studio. It works just like downloading store or Exchange content. Anything in your Export folder appears in the Upload area of your Launcher.

so I don't have to share them on sims3.com at all?  they will just sit in exports and I can copy that file to my dropbox storage for safe keeping?

thanks again, Mrs. Flynn!

thank you, Jude!  :)  this problem has been a great learning experience for me!  I'm so glad everyone has been so supportive of this nooboo.  oh, not a nooboo anymore, I'm not a Llama something.... ;)  still pretty much a nooboo.

Update on fixing my game:
settling the family into Twinbrook is working so much better at this point.  I've been able to save the game twice under the same name but every other time I save, I have to save under a new name.  I'm also having to clean out the cache files, DCCache and current game folders then reboot, more often.

No, you don't have to share your files on Sims3.com, unless you want to. Yep they'll just hang out in your Exports folder till you can back them up. :)

Thanks for updating us on your game. I'm happy to hear it's running better for you. Good thinking, saving with new name and rebooting every so often and cleaning out the cache files. That should help.

I am finding it interesting that I have to save very frequently and reboot about every 3 saves.  is this normal?

Depends how often you're saving and your total play time after 3 saves.

I have Saver on my laptop so it auto-saves every 30 minutes. After the 4th save (2 RL hours of playing), I often have to close the game and restart it because it's getting laggy. Sometimes I can go for 3 or 4 hours before that happens.

I'm with Khaine on that, It depends. All I have right now on my laptop is base game. That's all it will handle. Even with a cooling pad, when I play it, specially now that it's summer, I get about an hour of play-time before I have to get out of the game. But of course, save it before I do.

If I'm going to play for another hour or so, I'll restart. But if not I'll just go do whatever else and then reboot later in the day.

I am saving every 20-30 minutes of play and rebooting after cleaning out about every 90 minutes or so, I think.  I'll time it this time and see exactly how long I play between saves and how long I can play before rebooting.  seems like no time at all, of course.

I guess I might be expecting too much for my newly upgraded ram and harddrive.

 thanks bunches!

Just curious, how long has it been since you done a complete uninstall and reinstall of Sims 3, expansions, stuff packs and any store items you might have?

If it's been around 6 months to a year, it maybe something to consider. If you're not sure how to do that, let me know. I've got notes on that too. :)
