Non Nraas mods worth having?
« on: August 06, 2014, 03:25:48 PM »
I like a good many of the Nraas mods, however I'm sure Nraas isn't the only mod maker out there, what are your suggestions? I'm looking for things that both fix gameplay and make it interesting without forcing me to see or do things I'd rather not.

Misread the question, so I had to edit.

AwesomeMod seems ok. It's very customizable... but the forum there is... yeeeeah. I think it might be where the internet goes to die.

There are a good many mods on ModTheSims that might catch your eye. HystericalParoxysm is one of my favorites for some small fixes, but unfortunately the site does require you to sign up (but once it does, you're free to download as much as you want to your heart's content). Icarus (going by icarus_allsorts) is another modder I use frequently from that site as well, adding custom gameplay with some of his mods.

Lots of stuff at sims asylum, you have to register to download but many good modders there with lots of useful tweaks and fixes.

http://simsasylum.com/tfm/

If there's something that annoys you in the game chances are there is a mod there to put a stop to it or tweak it more to your liking. It's mostly xml mods so they work alongside script or core mods such as Twallans, they can conflict with each other if they alter the same xml but a lot of the creators make combined versions and also will do so if requested, very useful site and has saved my simming sanity many times over.

Just a note, AwesomeMod isn't particularly family friendly (nor is the forum, as Khaine pointed out), so discretion is advised. :)

First off, Tyrion, welcome to the forum. :) It really depends on what you want, as most modders tend to specialize (except twallan, because he's just awesome like that). I personally use a lot of Mods from MTS when I have them, and use a few from Buzzler, cmomoney, and armiel, all of whom I recommend.

This is sadly very true, because the mod is actually -really- good.

But I wouldn't recommend a non-adult visit that site. The mod is iffy on it's content and the forums are just... not nice.

I've been a member at Mod The Sims for many years because their custom content for TS2 was so amazing, and continues to be great with TS3, though not as prolific due to some of the difficulties of the new way the game works compared to the previous versions. The people there are also very helpful. The mods available range from fixing actual problems with game play to things that are just fun additions to the game, and each mod shows how many people have downloaded it, as well as a comment section attached where you can ask questions specific to that mod (or any other content), and the creator can respond directly (if they're still active, and if they're not there's a warning on the main page of the content showing that they haven't responded in x amount of time). You can still download the stuff if the creator isn't active, but if you have problems they won't be around to help you, though many of the other members are willing and able to try.

I find Awesome Mod to be very useful, but like others have already said, their forum is a place you want to avoid if at all possible. If you find you do need help there, my advice is to READ READ READ everything you possibly can find about your problem before you actually ask a question. That's pretty good advice for any forum, but while here and at MTS the moderators will kindly tell you "this has already been asked" and point you in the right direction, over at the "awesome" boards, you'll be lucky if anyone takes the time to actually show you where the question has already been answered in between the insults.

Simlogical is another good site for mods and tools. NonaMena's (and others') mods are hosted there.

I am another fan of MTS.  Among other game enhancing mods, icarus_allsorts' mods are awesome.  His mods can all be found at http://bootstrap.modthesims.info/member.php?u=7081784. He has just come out with a Jogging Track and another mod that allows your sim to "serve" a meal to an entire group so they all sit down to eat at the same time.
Ani also has some awesome game enhancing mods and you can see those here at http://bootstrap.modthesims.info/m/3002461
