Trait Availability for children
« on: September 28, 2010, 04:14:35 PM »
Hello.  I was playing my family for Metro's Immortal Dynasty challenge and I got pretty frustrated when I wasn't able to choose the traits I wanted for my heirs.  Not that I wasn't doing my job as a Sim parent, because I was able to choose certain traits.  Just that the ones I wanted weren't on the list.  So, as I am a player who likes to plot out my future moves in the long running dynasty games, I decided to find out what traits were available for children at each development stage.  Below are my results:

Available to be chosen at birth (up to 2 traits):  Absent-Minded, Artistic, Athletic, Brave, Clumsy, Couch Potato, Easily Impressed, Eccentric, Evil, Excitable, Friendly, Genius, Good, Grumpy, Hates the Outdoors, Heavy Sleeper, Light Sleeper, Loner, Loves the Outdoors, Neurotic, Perceptive, Slob, Virtuoso

Available to be chosen when toddler becomes child (up to 1 trait): Adventurous, Ambitious, Angler, Bookworm, Can't Stand Art, Computer Whiz, Coward, Daredevil, Eco Friendly, Family Oriented, Frugal, Good Sense of Humor, Hot Headed, Hydrophobic, Inappropriate, Kleptomaniac, Loser, Lucky, Mean Spirited, Mooch, Neat, Never Nude, No Sense of Humor, Over Emotional, Party Animal, Perfectionist, Photographer's Eye, Snob, Technophobe, Unlucky, Vegetarian, Vehicle Enthusiast, Workaholic

Available to be chosen when child becomes teen or when teen becomes young adult (up to 1 trait per transition): Born Salesman, Charismatic, Childish, Commitment Issues, Dislikes Children, Dramatic, Flirty, Great Kisser, Green Thumb, Hopeless Romantic, Natural Cook, Savvy Sculptor, Schmoozer, Unflirty

All choices from previous transitions are available unless you chose a conflicting trait (IE if you chose Good, Evil is removed from your available future choices).

I also made a rather lame attempt in Google documents to make a table form of the same information.  But if you'd like a copy for your personal reference, feel free.  It can be found at:

Note: I attempted to put this in nice neat columns for ease of reading, but bb code is smarter than I am ;)

Nice work, faeryfyre. I'm going to move this to the Guide Suggestions board in hopes that is catches Carl's attention. Maybe he could come up with a simple coding system in the existing traits page to denote what traits are available in each stage.

I agree it's great information.  Carl normally checks the suggestion board, so I'm sure he'll see this.

Oh excellent. I have been annoyed on a few occasions when the trait I wanted wasn't available to a child. I had thought it would be good to make a list of when traits become available to select, but never got around to doing it. Nice job and thank you.

I don't see the "Handy" trait on there.

I don't see the "Handy" trait on there.

Neither did I.  It should be listed under traits that can be selected by teens and adults.  Children or younger don't have access to it.
