Child and teen sims can't click on bed, toilet, or shower

Hi! Someone please help me! The adults in the game can perform these actions but when I try to click on the bed or toilet for my child or teen there's just the arrow with asterisk but nothing comes up to perform action. I've tried EVERYTHING that I found on the internet for people who had related issues- purchasing different objects, Resetting sims, moving them out and back in, etc. The only thing that I've seen to do but don't understand how to do it is with any recent downloaded "mods". I don't think I downloaded any mods but I also don't have a "mods" folder on my computer. I'm super frustrated and I would have no problem starting over but I'm afraid that I'll still have this issue when my babies age. So please someone help me!!! Thank you

Have you tried clearing the cache files and see if that helps?
Go to your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 folder and delete the files
CASPartCache.package
scriptCache.package
compositorCache.package
simCompositorCache.package

If I do this will it delete the current game or its progress?

No it just cleans up your game.

No, You wont lose anything from your saved games except hopefully the bugs your having . I use a batch file to delete these files every time I start the game to help keep some of the bugs out of it.
Doing that might be a bit extreme but it just a mouse click to start the batch file that deletes the cache files then launches the game for me.
