How will story progression work with Sim 4? Will the child I move out have a kid of their own? How about the active household? Will anything happen when I'm gone?

Tyw7, we probably will not know how story progression will or will not work until the game is released.

There are some tweets by sims guru graham that talk a little about story progression in the sims 4.  I'll link to it and copy them here.

@Rudy8292 @crinrict Oh no, new households will move in as others die. It pulls from the townie families first; gives them a spot to live.

@crinrict If you want unplayed families to continue beyond their current generation you'll need to try for a baby with them or play as them.

How about Sims 3?

Can my kids die without kids if I don't play with them.

This was answered in another tweet, but yes, they will die without kids if you don't play them.

This isn't a sims 3 board. This is a sims 4 board.

This thread is about Sims 4 discussion. Any questions about the Sims 3 should be posted in the relevant board.
As for comparing the two it is not possible to answer that as nobody knows yet. Not long to go before players will be able to try out the Sims 4 and more of your questions may be answered but as of now, nobody knows.

In the Sims 4 Cas, can children be created with same sex couples?

Only Young Adult sims can be created in the demo version of Sims 4 CAS.  Children cannot be created in the demo.  So I suppose that wouldn't be known for sure until release.

I am super new to the whole message board experience .. so forgiveness please if I don't "do it right" at first.  Looking forward to the new Sims 4 (I have been an active simmer since day 1 .. The Sims!) and I love the Sims (all).  I am not overly disappointed by no pools (I do like them) and no toddlers .. I figure they are coming sooner or later in an expansion pack.  I really do not mind that at all and am quite willing to buy them later.  I love the brightness of the graphics and eagerly anticipate fewer glitches and easier running on my machine.  I am a bit worried about loading screens (my recent retry of Sims 2 left me less than excited about that). The only only huge grouse I have is that that the hair is pretty awful.  Come on EA know your customers and what they want!!  To stay alive they have to listen to their fans.  Even tho (lets be real) I will buy it the night it comes out .. it remains to be seen if the limitations (load screens .. no color wheel .. limited clothing and poor hair) will be offset by the newer additions to play (build buy improvements .. more interactions for sims ... pretty graphics).

I'm really excited for the Sims4 but learning about the no toddlers and lack of story progression I'm a little more hesitant.  However, I am still going to buy the game as soon as it releases.  This will be my first time learning to play with other people at the same time.  I have been playing Sims since the first game.  I normally wait awhile to buy the new game because I get used to how the old game plays and I enjoy it.  I think this time I'll keep Sims3 on the computer for awhile so i have something familiar to come back to.

Overall I can't wait to see how the new game plays and figuring out all the differences :)

For the clothing and furnishings, etc., I'm trying to look at it like real life.  We go to a store and see what's available.  Maybe we really like the little pink sweater set but would rather have it in green, which they don't have.  Oh well, I'll make an outfit that works with the pink.  That kind of thing.  Sims 3 was more like you had your own tailor or seamstress as well as decorator who could get all hand made furniture to spec.  That's how I'm handling it in my head. :)

EA have released a new trailer! This time it's about emotions. It just shows a couple of emotions but it's still a trailer.
