Seeds in Barnacle Bay
« on: September 26, 2010, 01:36:16 AM »
I'd heard that there "weren't many" spawning locations in Barnacle Bay, but I really expected there to be more than one for seeds.  Yes, there's only one location for seeds in Barnacle Bay.  It's at Pirate's Hideaway, between the two cemetaries.  There are plenty of insect, rocks/gems, and fishing spots, thankfully.  There are harvestable life fruits at the Coastal and Rome households, but I don't know yet where to find Death Flowers, Flame Fruit, or Money Tree seeds.  The two seeds that are currently marked on my map are a grape seed and an uncommon seed.  I've seen a rare seed there, as well, but nothing else yet.

It's going to be difficult to have a successful Dynasty in Barnacle Bay until we find how to get the other special seeds.  If anyone finds something, please post it here.

Here's a screenshot of the lonely seed spawning location and the Rome household just to the left, near where I placed my Junkyard:

In the BB game that I played I had 2 locations.  The one you stated in your post and in Lookout Park.  I played to 2 Sim weeks and never found a special seed.  In a different thread I think someone found a death flower bush, but can not remember which thread that was in.

Thanks, gerrr00.  I'll keep an eye out for Lookout Park.  Nothing else was showing up with the Collection Helper when I took that shot.

Yes!  I found the seeds at Lookout Park.  Shame on me for not seeing it the first time.  Here's a screenshot:

Lookout Point also has a deathflower bush growing.  I guess without a way to get money trees, my dynasty family will be just a tad more challenged at finding money.

I have a theory that Barnacle Bay is likely to be a hot fishing area.  If this is the case then you will still be able to get death, flame and money tree seeds by fishing.  I did see a purchasable place with garlic and bell pepper already growing.  No doubt all of you have spotted this as well.

Good point, tiff.  There are a lot of fishing spots along the shoreline all the way around the island and at the bottom of the waterfall.  There's one residence that also shows up with fishing spots, but I don't know which one it is yet.

Thank you for directing me here. I agree with the two spots for gathering seeds. I have found several rare and uncommon seeds as well as known seeds in both locations. I am unfamiliar with fishing for seeds though. Is it similar to randomly coming up with a chest with X item inside? Is there a way to increase your chances of catching seeds?

Yes, special seeds come in the chests you reel in.  I'm not aware of a way to increase your chances of getting them, though.  Barnacle Bay may be set up to provide more of them than the other towns, but I haven't had a chance to do any fishing there yet.

Thank you Pam. My wife and I are both starting our first Dynasties and are trying out BB at the same time, it's been a huge learning curve so far.

I used a miner time travel machine (don't recall if it was past or future) in SV and I got a money seed, so maybe that'll work in BB, too. It was one my inventing Sim had built, but not an Improved or Master version. Since it was the da Vinci Challenge, all I could do is stick it in inventory for the time being. Anyway, I wanted to share that here in case it helps in BB, which I'll get back to when I'm done with the Challenge.

Edit: Was reading the whole of the "How many gnomes" thread and realized I'd typed the wrong invention in, so I used strikeout to get rid of the one word and italics for the actual way I got the money seed. I don't know what about that thread made me realize it. Anyway, I'm sorry for any confusion I may have caused.   :-[

I'm confused. Has someone actually gotten a special seed from fishing? Or is it tiff's theory?

I've actually gotten special seeds from fishing.  Sometimes it says specifically what the seed is, like Money Tree, Death Flower, etc.  I might tell the type of seed every time, I'm not sure.

Played some Barnacle Bay last night and decided this would make a dynasty challenge REALLY tough.  It was pretty late but didn't find any seeds, (will now look in the places you guys found), and my klepto only found two cars worth stealing.  Sloppy jalopies and Big Lemons really aren't worth much and there aren't that many of them either.  One good thing is the easels set up at the swimming pool and there are a lot of spots to get juice.  Why on earth they would put the library so far out from anything is beyond me.  Takes forever just to get there to read and skill up.

I'm taking a break from my real dynasty as I have so much catching up to do with the writing so will check out fishing today.  Haven't found any rocks or gems either.

There appear to be plenty of rocks and gems.  I've got a Collection Helper in Barnacle Bay and it shows lots of them on the Map View.
