Removing dead sim as "boyfriend"
« on: June 06, 2014, 11:24:14 PM »
Not sure if this should be here or on the WA board, but I recently acquired WA. After all this time, they obviously have not patched the "surprise child" glitch when traveling. I took a trip to France with my single sim. I visited the special merchant at her house, traded some local gossip, which was essentially some sim died. Next thing I know, I realise the child sim in her house is MY daughter! although I couldn't play her. After that, I could no longer buy from the special merchant, as she was now my half-daughter or half-sister or something? I ended up deleting those two and now have a new special merchant.
But now my family tree shows the father of this daughter as my boyfriend, even though he's dead. I hadn't even met this sim. I have not tried to propose going steady with anyone but I'm thinking I won't get this option as the dead sim is still listed as my boyfriend. He's not in my relationship panel at all, either. Is there a way to get rid of the boyfriend status? I tried that LTR Clean Slate, but it still says the dead sim is my boyfriend. I don't know where his remains would be, and because I deleted the merchant and my daughter, I can't remember which house they were in to check the house.

Do you have another, unrelated sim the household? They can get romantic with your sim and ask them to break up with the unwanted boyfriend. You might want to do that while they're in France, though, just to make sure that the game recognizes that there's a boyfriend in the world that she can break up with.

I'm not certain that it will work, but it's worth trying.

Is your game fully updated?  I really thought they had fixed this awhile ago.

I ran into the same bug on patch 1.63 myself. I thought they fixed it too, but nope.

Yes, it's fully patched. I put off getting WA because I knew it originally had a lot of game breaking bugs, then it was on sale recently and I thought "surely by now they've patched all the serious bugs".  The save game I was using when I installed WA, well they can't even travel at all, so I created this new game with just a single sim, just to try everything out and make sure there weren't even more bugs.
I don't have another sim in the household, Trip, but as I'm not adverse to using cheats, I might add one, get them to get my sim to break up with the ghost, then delete them as well. I haven't actually checked if "propose going steady" is available, I will check that first to see if the game actually recognises that it's saying my sim has a boyfriend, it may not if it's a glitch.

Have you got a save from right before they travelled?  If so, load it, travel, and see if it happens again.

How exactly are you deleting these sims? if you are using testing cheats to do it you could seriously corrupt your save games, moving to the clipboard then removing from there is safer. Or use testing cheats to age them up fast so they die of old age, or drag the hunger bar down to starve them, sounds cruel but better than deletion.

This bug hit me in my Immortal dynasty, I got permission to go back a save when it did, my sim was married as well but I had sent her there with her parents as a single young adult before that visit so I think that's where my problems started, it's not just some random spawn either, she had purple and red hair thanks to her IF mother and so did this sudden teenage daughter so they use your sims genetics to create them.

Do you have university? you might be able to do something with social networking, I've noticed ghosts show up in the list of sims it gives you, you could use the relationship transmogrifier maybe.

I deleted them by going into edit town then moving them to the clipboard. I only use testing cheats to manage their needs or give them some extra money etc. I never use it to delete or tweak objects, as I'm too scared I'd do something wrong and ruin the game.
I don't have university.
It's not a huge issue, it's not game breaking, I just thought someone would know of an easy way to fix it seeing as it was (and apparently still is) a big problem with WA. My sim doesn't plan to settle down until she's an adult, she's enjoying her jet setting youth at the moment. But I just want her to actually be able to settle down eventually without everyone thinking she's cheating on a deceased boyfriend

If you don't, in future, always make a backup save game before your sim(s) travel.  Use the Save As and call it something else.  Then as soon as they 'land' in the new world, check everything out, make sure nothing is screwy (like family trees, etc.).  If everything is ok, then continue.  If anything is hinky, then go back and load up the special save and try again.

If you have Generations, you could save up and buy the Clean Slate LTR. It essentially deletes your sim's entire romantic history.

I did get the clean slate, that just removed my romantic interests, but not the dead boyfriend in the family tree. I will go and play it soon, and see if it is actually registering as an active boyfriend, or if it's just something stuck in my tree that really doesn't have an impact on anything. I just don't like it in my family tree, as I never even knew the Sim lol
