Spawning Question
« on: September 23, 2010, 07:27:33 PM »
Most of my sims collect gems or seeds, but I've never been able to determine whether it's best to collect undesirable items in order to make space for new spawns of potentially desirable items. For instance, if I'm after Special Seeds, should I be collecting the Rares and Uncommons too, to clear them away? Or will the seeds left on the ground possibly morph into a different type of seed the next day?

Edit: Okay, I'm going to run a test on this and I'll let you know how it turns out.

I always just collect the special seeds.  I am a Sunset Valley player and can collect on average 18 special seeds per collection which I do every day or two when collecting.  On the days  I am not collecting seeds, I collect gems, metal and space rocks.

I tried running a test 3 times, but the spawning was so inconsistent between the attempts that I gave up. It seems that at least for a while, the presence of an uncollected seed does not interfere with new spawns. There would have to be some upper limit, after which an area would be saturated until collected. Whether it becomes reset will remain a mystery to me.  ::)

Thanks for your input, wildredchild!

Next to my dynasty house, I noticed a couple of seeds.  When I went to pick them up, one was a special seed, yay, and the other one was an uncommon seed.  So my thought was the same as yours.  Do ya pick the non special seeds up to make way for more the following day or leave them.  I went ahead and took both seeds.  The next day, there were three, two special seeds and an uncommon.  I picked them all up, after a couple of days there were three more seeds, no special seeds this time, just two uncommon and a rare.  Spawning is so random, it is hard to do a test on these.  There never has been more than three and for the most part, there is always one and it is always a special seed.  If I don't pick it up, the other two will show up in a day or so.  Did that make sense, lol. ;D

It does. Again, my test wasn't complete, but I observed that single spawner will give at most one seed a day, and that multiple spawners can stack or overlap the same area. One Special spawner can leave a Rare, Uncommon, or Special seed. I also observed a lettuce seed, which may have come from a programmed spawner other than my test ones.

For me, it seems that they spawn quicker if I pick the seed up.  If they spawn quicker, there's more chance for special seeds.  And if my Sim is right there by the seed, there's no reason not to pick it up.  You can sell it if you don't need that particular kind of seed.

I've noticed that the Special seed spawners do drop common seeds and, at least as far as I can tell, they tend to be higher quality.  Lately I've been playing a world that I created myself and so I know that the only seed spawners that I have placed have all been Special.

But as for the original question, I do not know if seeds spawn faster if you pick up the seeds that are already present.  I want to say that they don't, but I certainly don't have the patience to test it myself.

Heh, 3 hours of bumbling around was enough for me.  :D
