Simlish Music and Language
« on: September 23, 2010, 02:57:20 AM »
I often listen to the Sims radio, the pop channel and it sticks out to me that either EA has been paying people to sing in Simlish or re-mixing the songs to give it the gibberish sound. Yesterday I think I heard Pixie Lot's Mama Do? Has anyone else heard that in there? Or heard any other songs?

EA has for a very long time been playing  Song Artists to sing their songs in simlish for our games.

Could make you think simlish is a real language, with words that do actually mean something more than just brabbeling around.
We should put some simlish lyrics next to the original song and look if we could translate some words out of it. With the more songs we do this, the higher the change will be we will eventually understand our little digital friends.
Sounds like an excelent job for you Metroman, cause I already am learning a third language. This is your change! :D

I've heard plenty of real songs while playing Sims. In fact, in Sims 2 if you went to audio settings it would give you a list of what went in each category.

I'll get back to you and let you know when my official Simlish dictionary is completed. But, be patient. I mean...really patient...'cause I may end up passing the job onto one of my kids.

They're definitely paying singers to really sing in simlish. I bear to mind that I read an interview somewhere with an artist who made a song for Sims 3, and she said basically that it was a fun and unusual way of expressing yourself. :-\

Did they also did this with sims 1? I remember that Marilyn Monroe and Christina Aguilera where both introduced as celebreties in TS1 Superstar. Of course they (Maxis) could not let miss Monroe sing in Simlish, but some grandchild could.

I remember that.  I also remember when listening to custom music on the sims3 and hearing a song in english, I thought I was hearing things, now that was pretty neat.  I also finally put my own music on the sims and it sounds really weird to hear those songs coming from it. :)

Hope this is alright, but there is a wikipedia article on Simlish, that includes a list of recording artists who have re-recorded their music, and which game it was on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simlish#Outside_artists

I haven't actually looked at any, but I've heard that some people have made Simlish dictionaries translating some of the basic things that they say in the game.

I have also noticed that the Simlish spoken in Sims 1 & 2 sounds quite different to 3. The first two sounded very Japanese and the latest one sounds more American/European.

Ah a new language-Simlish, do you think it would catch on? Will we all be writing our posts in it? Wouldn't that be fab.
Perhaps someone could set up courses to learn to write and speak it.

We could go on Mastermind:
