Alchemy challenge glitch
« on: May 22, 2014, 10:57:52 AM »
Recently I figured out just how awesome Alchemy is and have been playing with the skill more often. I wanted to hang onto the Master Alchemist opportunity from reaching level ten so I could find the nanites I was missing from the future. However I've been running into problem after problem concerning the opportunity. First it wouldn't trigger when my sim hit level 10 Alchemy. I even resorted to cheating to force the opportunity but the accept screen wouldn't appear. Then once I figured out that it was only working in Midnight Falls (not terrible as I like the town, just prefer to play in towns already updated to the newest expansion) the opportunity didn't survive the trip to the future. The game just removed the opportunity saying it was now impossible to complete. Now I know it can be done because I've seen Llandros do the same thing in his Into the Future Let's Play on YouTube.

Any thoughts on why I'm having such issues? Thanks for any help!

Into the Future will auto-reject any opportunity that arrives when your sim is not in a rabbithole.

Master Alchemist requires the Fae Rae Arboretum and the Vault of Antiquity to be placed in the neighborhood - MF has them already placed, but any other neighborhood requires you to add them via Edit Town, or by purchasing an empty lot(s) and placing them yourself from Build Mode.

Because I currently have ITF disabled to finish my 4x4 Dynasty (auto-reject of opportunities is a Bad Thing), I can't answer why it was removed once you arrived in OL - though if I had to guess, I'd say it was because there was no arboretum or vault to turn the opportunities in.

Also, I can't answer the YouTube thing, because I haven't seen it, so can't comment there.

Again? There are only two opportunities which your Sim will reject if they are in the present and both have a high chance to trigger a call (and if they are triggered in a rabbithole you wouldn't even notice). You still can get other opportunities but they are rarer than those from ITF.
I would like to post a tuning mod here but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to.

@Kris402,
The Master Alchemist challenge doesn't require any opportunities and it won't help you finding nanites. If you already learned 37 of 44 recipes you may have to go to the bookstore and buy all seven alchemy books. Or do you want the opportunity reward? If you have enough Lifetime Happiness Points you could buy the Philosopher's Stone as Lifetime Reward.

Could you please post the names of the two opportunities and the percentage chance of them being phone calls? I find it difficult that a family of four will only get those two opportunities when not in a rabbithole with every single phone call (that isn't a date request), and will reject them autonomously.

I think there is some confusion here,  the Master Alchemist skill challenge that requires you to learn all recipes is different to the Alchemic Mastery opportunity, the names are so similar I think it's easy to confuse them. I have a sim who currently has that op so I just checked the names.

Alchemic Mastery will indeed help you find nanites as the first part of the chain shows every insect on the map, and they apparently count as insects. I have no idea why it cancelled because if it's the first part of the chain, the insect part, that requires a science building and Oasis Landing has one.

Shirin, I'm playing my life states with ITF and so far so good, my sims are all in rabbithole careers mind you but I have been getting occasional phone calls at home that fire an op window instead of an auto reject, they do still auto reject some though, I don't know it's just so random  :-\

You're much luckier than I am, Turoskel. When I started my 4x4, ITF hadn't released yet. So I got through Neighborhood 1. Generation 5 was working on her self-employed career, Sculpting, and once ITF was installed, she never got an opportunity phone call again (I had turned off celebrity). Her husband, who was in Medicine, never got another an opp unless it was work related. Her father never got one (his Video Game Developer career had bugged out, so he just stayed unemployed). Her mother, an alchemist, also never got one, unless it related to her Laser Rhythm-a-con skill.

By the time she finished her requirements, I had turned off ITF, put her into the Business career, and promptly got the sculpting skill opps for her to finish. She was 3 days into Elder.

Every Day I’m Hoverin’ (EP11_Skill_Future01) and Wings of Thunder (EP11_Skill_Future02), both have <ChanceToGetOnPhone>500</ChanceToGetOnPhone> (weighted chance) while most other skills use only 10-25 here.

That weight is...crazy. Wow.

The problem with the Video Game career is mostly stupidity on my part, and is unrelated to ITF. I started in Bridgeport, had Generation 4 max that path, then switched him to Private Investigator for opportunities. When I moved the family to Riverview, I decided to put him back into Video Game, but he kept resetting outside the building. So I just kept him at home, and worked on his daughter, the sculptor, who could never get those opportunities.

Shirin, did he work as Game Developer before? Otherwise, there's only one reason why he kept resetting: His blog had so many followers that he could join any career at level 4 (which causes issues when the career is already branched). Luckily, the same threshold allows you to sell your blog.

He did, in Bridgeport. His blog didn't have a whole lot of followers, 'cause I remember getting annoyed with him not being able to exceed 50 followers LOL. I just figure it was something to do with Riverview.

And in Bridgeport he already reached a higher level (at least 7)? You could still join via mailbox cheat or use MasterController to remove Video Game Developer from his career history. The world in which you play has nothing to do with your issues.

He had maxed the career.

As I generally play Dynasties, cheats are disallowed. As are mods, which I avoid anyway.

However, he's not an issue anymore, that particular Dynasty file wound up corrupting because of an aging issue, so I just restarted altogether.

I'm sorry, but when you started this line of questioning, it took the thread off topic.  Plus, Shirin wasn't actually seeking help for that issue.  She came here to help the original poster.  I'm also confused by some of the things you said about the auto-reject of opportunities.  If you wish, you may send me a private message.  Just be sure to stay on topic on this thread.  :)

There are only two methods which trigger Alchemic Mastery: reaching the next alchemy skill level and creating an elixir (chance of getting a phone call is 0). However, the opportunity will never come back if your sim already completed the first step (donating four insects).
