Carving Out Your Niche

Carving Out Your Niche

Goal
As you could probably guess from the title this event is all about the sculpting skill — but, with only two weeks allowed how much money can your fledgling sculptor make? And though there is a little luck involved — how many different types of objects will you end up sculpting? It will be interesting to see how players pick up their chisels and pursue this one.

This event comes courtesy of Blackrosea (thank you for the idea!).

General Challenge Rules
The General Challenge Rules always apply. If applicable, exceptions will be noted below.

Specific Challenge Rules
  • Create 1 Young Adult Sim. Ghost life states are banned (including ghost elixirs and potions), but all other life states are fine.
  • Pets are the only allowed household additions (no Sims). Pets in CAS or adopting after going into Live Mode are both fine.
  • You cannot complete any sculpting opportunities (cancel any ones that fire) Non-sculpting opportunities are fine.
  • You cannot sell or consign any sculptures at any register.
  • You can only have ONE sculpting station on your lot.
  • Remember — no Midas Touch elixir.
  • A reminder that the moveobjects on cheat is for stuck objects only.
  • Traveling is banned.
  • If your Sim dies then you are done with the challenge. Post in this thread that you are DNF.
  • This challenge concludes at the end of 2 weeks (Week 2, Day 7, 11:59 PM).

Scoring

Money Made — Open up your Sim’s Sculpting Skill Journal and look down to the Money Made stat. Remember the restrictions: no consignment store sales, and no sculpting opportunities that pay simoleans. VERY IMPORTANT: As soon as your Sim finishes a sculpture and you get the information pop up in the top right screen, you must sell the sculpture in Live Mode with the piece on the stand. Entering Buy Mode to sell is not allowed.

Objects — This is your multiplier. Everyone starts with a multiplier of 1.00. For every different type of object made (go into Buy Mode and click on the object for the name) add .05 to your multiplier. IMPORTANT — A “Gloria” clay statue and a “Gloria” wood statue are still the same type of object because the name is the same. The same goes for Ice Sculptures of Sims — an Ice Sculpture of Bella Goth and an Ice Sculpture of Mortimer Goth do not have different names in the title. They simply say "Ice Sim Sculpture." So, it’s very important you keep organized and write down the names of all the different types of sculptures you make.

Total — Simply multiply your Money Made stat by your Objects multiplier for your Total.

Example: Let’s say your Money Made stat is $50,000 and you have also written down 40 different objects (all have different names) that you have sculpted.

40 X .05 = 2.
1.00 + 2.00 = 3.00
Total = $50,000 X 3.00 = 150,000

Ch-Ch-Changes
The team does not want to edit and make changes to the ruleset once this event goes live, but we may have to. This seasons’ events are shorter and the team has less time to test potential loopholes. If an exploit is brought to our attention or we discover something else we reserve the right to ask affected players to redo their effort.

Have Questions?
Please think hard before you ask in the challenge thread because it may be strategy. What you may consider an innocent question could cause another player to go — “oh, I did not think of doing that.” It’s always safer to PM everyone on the team (Metro, ratchie, Nutella, and Blackrosea) for clarifications. Thanks.

And the Winner is...
After this event has closed everyone is encouraged to discuss how they approached the event, but the winner especially is expected to do so in detail.

Awwwwww! I was really looking forward to this as I read through the rule set only to find the mixology task at the end...  I have a copy of late night but can't play it as I've lost the product key.
I don't want to buy a new copy.  Does anyone know if there is any way to get the code?   I really want to play this!!!

Hmmmm...well if you did register your original code with EA, then I am thinking you'd qualify for a digital download. Not 100% sure on that.

@susiesue

Did you buy it digitally thru the origins store?  Or was it a hard copy of the disc?  If its digital, you can logged on to origins and redownload.  If it's hard copy, sorry you're out of luck.

Metro is right, I always buy the disc and register it at the sims site, they automatically show up in my games on origin as well after doing that. Of course if you didn't register it then you wont have that.

But if you did you may not even need to download it as your product key should be listed with the game on origin so you can just copy it from there.

Just to notify everyone, in case they are confused.  Susiesue is talking about the Mission Impossible challenge, not this one.  This challenge doesn't require late night xpac.

Here's some more info on ice sculptures that I put in the rules for clarification —

They simply say "Ice Sim Sculpture."

Just a friendly reminder: You may only count the sculpting of a Sim one time in your multiplier. You may sell the ice sculpture right away before it melts for the money unless you do the ice sculpture challenge and want to keep it.

Having just registered in the forum and read the tournament rules I can see I'm a little late in the day here, but I'm hoping to join in this one! (I haven't had a sculptor Sim before either, so that could be interesting!) Despite having played Sims back when the first Sims game was shiny and new, I've never participated in this sort of thing, so hopefully I won't make an idiot of myself by asking too many stupid questions.

I just want to say that even when I've asked idiot questions, I've never been treated like an idiot.

Welcome to the forum sarkywoman.

Feel free to ask any questions you have. All we ask is, if they have to do with strategy, please PM everyone on the challenge team (Matropolis Man, ratchie, Nutella and Blackrosea). If you aren't sure if it is a strategy question, it is better to PM the team with the question than post it on the thread.

You are sorely tempting me, Metro! Sculpting is my favorite skill in The Sims 3.

One question - can we grant wishes that fire? I mean, can the Sim complete any wishes like Sculpt a Clay Sculpture? I know this is about the money and sculpting opportunities are banned but what about sculpting wishes?
I play The Sims 4 for fun, so I don't care if I never end up being interviewed for the Dynasty Hall of Fame; people who play for keeps burn out too easily and don't enjoy playing the games, so I am going to not sweat the details.

Okay, I am going to try a test run of this challenge before the start date, just to try it out. It will be a good way to start weaning myself off of the testingcheats, it's only two Sim weeks long and only one Sim is allowed. (I don't have Pets, it's the only expansion I lack.) Wish me luck!  ;D
