Toddlers Stuck at top of Stairs
« on: May 13, 2014, 04:28:30 PM »
This happens in every game file I've ever played. If I try to have a sim in the household interact with the toddler, the toddler immediately crawls to the top of the stairs and the adult sim will go down the stairs. Then, both are frozen. I've been able to reset the toddler to "unfreeze" both of them, but given that you have to interact with the toddlers a lot (potty training, teaching to walk, etc.), it's really a headache. Does this happen to anybody else? Is there a fix?

Thanks!

I haven't had it happen to that extent.  What interactions are you trying to do?

I had one household that was like that and it drove me crazy.  At the time, I only had a single wide staircase, rearrange the house and put a double staircase, that helped some and then I finally redid everything, took away the hall door and that helped some.  I ended up putting the toddlers room on the ground floor with all of her toys.  I agree, it gets annoying.

I think this is mostly a pathing issue.  For some reason, the game wants the interaction to happen on the first floor of the house.  Possibly the room where the toddler is located is too small for the interaction and the game is redirecting to a larger spot that just happens to be downstairs.  I had some success with having both the toddler and adult move to a larger area upstairs before attempting the interaction.

What Pam says works for me too. Just do a go here for both the toddler and adult to the most open area. I always put toys and potty chairs on all levels and out in the backyard. I get so tired of making the adult pick up the child and take him to wherever the potty is.

Thanks for all the advise. This happens with every interaction I try to do with the toddler...potty, teach to walk, talk, doesn't seem to matter. I can't honestly say if all the stairs have been single wide or not, but I will try to expand them. I'll also try to 'go here' method. One or both is bound to work, right?  :)

Sometimes, if you tell a sim to pick up the toddler before doing other actions, it will help.
