Teleportation Pad
« on: September 20, 2010, 03:02:39 PM »
I bought a Teleportation Pad because I read somewhere that it makes it much easier to collect gems -- I imagined queuing up several locations, then teleporting from each to the next.

Only now, I have no idea how to do that. It appears in the shared inventory, which can only be accessed at home, right? How do I use this thing?

Best for reaching locations that take long to walk too.

To teleport somewhere:  Pull up the map, click the desired location, and choose teleport.

To return:  Use your cell phone and pick teleport home.

You can also click the teleporter and choose some locations, like work, don't remember all the options form there.  saves time going to work though.

This thing did help when I did a lot of fishing though and was a ot of fun.

Thanks, I experimented a little bit, but still have questions. I apparently need to place the pad on the home lot before it will work. It seems that if I want to jump to several locations, I need to jump home in between each, not directly from one distant location to another. Is this right?

Also, if I'm traveling but don't have a vacation home, is the Teleportation Pad useless there?

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Useless in that case.

Thanks so much for your help! I think it's probably still worth the points.

You're welcome! :)

I do get it and pass it on to the next Gen.  It's not amazing, but definitely saves a lot of time for different things.

@LlamaMama:

Unless you're playing in a challenge, you can also do teleporting through testingcheats.  That's the way to go from place to place without returning home.  When I'm playing just a regular family, I feel I can start using the teleport command once a Sim has earned enough happiness points to purchase the teleporter.  Sort of my own self-imposed guideline.  However, if you're using it in a Dynasty family or in a regular challenge, you have to use the Teleporter itself.

I'm not sure a teleporter is useless when traveling.  If you have a vacation home, I don't see why it couldn't be used.  Try putting it in your family inventory before leaving home and see if you can set it out in your vacation home (if you have one).

Right, I was guessing that if one didn't have a vacation home, the Pad couldn't be accessed while traveling. I'm finding that to be the most motivating factor in accumulating vacation homes, which I guess wouldn't be a factor if I globally used the teleport cheat after enough points.

@Pam: Just wondering, do you spend those happiness points on the Pad anyway, or use them for something else?  Do you find your game to be more unstable or buggy when you play with testingcheatsenabled left on "true" through the game?

Sometimes I go ahead and buy the Pad.  I guess it just depends on how "honest" I feel like being.  I don't have any trouble with the game running badly while testingcheats are enabled.  I think that may have been a big problem with Sims 2, but it doesn't seem to be an issue with Sims 3.

I get no troubles with testingcheats on but I do know that you can place the teleporter in vacation homes and have them work.

When my sim has bought a teleport or four, I've I placed them also on lot that he or she has bought. So you can also teleport from other lots to somewhere else rather than using the cellphone to get back and teleporting from there to another place.

This way, you can upgrade your whole town with an infrastructural network of teleportation pads. Too bad your sims would be the only ones who will use it, and they won't use it on their own by default, being teleporting the shortest way of traveling between two points.

Because what is shorter than traveling from A to B than by using a straight line? Exactly: in no time.
