Computer Buying Help!?
« on: April 29, 2014, 08:02:13 AM »
I've read the above computers and components thing and still i do NOT understand so if this is in the wrong section or not allowed sorry I need help and i am NOT computed savvy thank you.

I've been posting about everywhere trying to get advice and help on buying a gaming PC. So far no luck and everyone is saying avoid cyberpcs and ibuypower. It would really help if someone who already owns a pc that WORKS with the game would respond and keep in mind i am NOT interested in building a pc or having someone build it. Where I live the shops are either repair or over charge for simple things or bs you and I don't have time for that. So please do not mention that many of ppl I've seen on youtube and cc creators have pre-built pcs. My budget is about $1,200 at the most. I am NOT a techinicial person so overclocking SSD etc you basically talking some other language to me. I want a computer that will go
farther than whats required. It must be atleast 1-2TB and have Nvidia 770 graphics card, about 16gbs of ram and lastly OS Windows 8.1. I am hearing Alienwear is aweful due to it being companied with Dell. Asus is another brand I see but i have no idea of its rep I know of a popular youtuber who does have this brand though. Anyways if you can help me I'd like some good advice maybe expierence with your own PC that you have?. The more I look the more fustrated I am. Like i said my budget is a little over $1,200. Also whats the difference between a gaming pc and a regular one??. Serious answers please because this is my money I am going to spend and I don't want to waste it on a crappy PC that'll have to be fixed a few months later. Also if you could recommend some good moniter brands that would be great as well. It must be adjustable, 27" and buit in speakers. Please if you can provide links where to buy the pc and moniter I'd like that was well and as stated I am not interested in building one so mentioning that is useless because I am set on buying one and have the money for it.

Sorry about the title.

i actually found a monitor (under $300). I just waz asking if theres any specific brands or can it be anyone. I was interested in a Samsung (I've had bad expierences with em lol). I wanted speakers built because my last pc I had to plug them in and to me thats a little out dated now and makes clutter. The one I think i will buy is adjustable and wide screen as has built in speakers. I just thought specific ones would work but I guess a monitor is a monitor.

Far as the computers go I've found two but as stated they're both either Ibuypower or cyberpc company. I did a little researched this morning and its hit or miss with them some say theyve had good expierence where some say their computer only lasted for 6 months. Both these have a higher processor and great graphics cards. Nvidia 770 which i saw was better than the one I was looking for which was the one before 770.

My main issue is i dont want to spend alot of money based on a brand and its crappy I've seen lots of
posts of ppl saying avoid them, their customer service sucks, they use refurbished parts (which is a big no no to me). I'd like ppl who was in the same situation help me with my decision as they already went through this and what made them decide to get the pc they choose

Hi there!
I've read the above computers and components thing and still i do NOT understand so if this is in the wrong section or not allowed sorry I need help and i am NOT computed savvy thank you.
It's completely ok to not be computer savvy, the important thing is to just know the basics about computers and how to take care of it so any computer can work to become a decent "gaming" computer.

I know it's very frustrating, but I'm sure we can get you a good computer running that's prebuilt. It's definitely not impossible. My computer is considered "high-end" and works with almost all settings maxed (I usually keep them medium to high in order to make sure my game doesn't lag after playing with a file for a very, very long time though), and I only spent $1010 on it. You're not going to have to build it, but you can customize it. I recommend HP for that. Let me give you some examples.

My budget is about $1,200 at the most.
>It must be atleast 1-2TB and have Nvidia 770 graphics card.
>About 16gbs of ram and lastly OS Windows 8.1.
>I am hearing Alienwear is aweful due to it being companied with Dell. **Alienware isn't so bad, just very expensive for something you could likely get from another computer manufacturer**

A "gaming" PC is usually set up to handle high graphics, multi-tasking, etc. a regular computer is usually just set up to do minimum things (like browsing the web, watching videos, maybe doing some low quality games). A "Gaming" PC is usually a term that someone uses for a computer that's built for really high quality games (like Skyrim, The Witcher, some First Person Shooters, etc). That same computer could also just be referred to as a "High-End" PC which can do a lot of things.

Absolutely! I'll do my best to find you some good PCs.

Sorry about breaking up your post. I just needed to make sure I covered everything. Let's take a look at a few good computers for you - don't rule out any computer just yet, as sometimes you'd be surprised.
Also I noticed your Specs are a little restrictive. It will be hard to find a pre-built computer with EXACTLY those specifications, but if you trust me I won't let you spend money on a computer that won't work! I'll get you comparable specs on a pre-built (If I can't find the original ones you want).

Ok, so here we go, I'll start with HP because my baby er computer is an HP, and, as I've said before, I got it for a great price with great specs.

Ok, I think I've found one:
http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Desktops/HP-ENVY/E6S61AV?HP-ENVY-700-230qe-Desktop-PC
This is an Envy, you'll have to customize it from HP's website, but you can get exactly the specifications that you want on it.
To Customize it to the most efficient setup:
-The Processor is fine, no need to pick the other one.
-Warranty is up to you.
-Graphics card: Do either this option "2GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 645[DVI,DP,HDMI,DVI to VGA Dongle]" (for the price of $179 extra dollars - recommended) or "2GB AMD Radeon R9 270 [2xDVI, HDMI, DP, DVI to VGA adapter]" (for the price of $274 extra dollars on top of the computer).
-You can leave it at twelve or up it to 16 if you really, really want 16. However, that's money you could be putting into your monitor. It's really up to you, my computer runs the game just fine with 8gigs, and you'll have 2gigs dedicated to graphics cards anyway if you choose the one of the graphics cards I recommended you choose between above. You did specify that you wanted 16, so the option is there.
-Pick your monitor (you can go more expensive here if you left the RAM at 12 and the graphics card as the NVidia).
-The harddrive that comes with it has 2Tbytes
The next important thing is a little ways down, make sure you change your power supply to the bigger one. That will ensure longevity and it's only $30. Definitely worth it.
-The rest is just fluff, if you want a printer or speakers or anything - there is where you get it. Keep in mind that a computer from HP ALWAYS comes with a mouse and keyboard included. They offer you other mice and keyboards, but you don't have to get them, that's all up to you.

This was just one computer, but you can likely do the same with any others from HP. That's why I like them, is you can customize it to your likings without necessarily needing to "build" your own or have someone else do it.
Let me keep looking. I'll post this for now so you can see and post some more when I find a few others. I'll even look through Alienware to see if they've got something.

I actually had a HP lol. A laptop for about three yrs (it was a Dv-6 I think anyways sadly the harddrive died and i never got it fixed.) prior to that my family brought me a HP desktop for christmas I believe in 9th grade I had it a the way up until the sims 3 release which sadly it was not compadible with and I had to throw it out a few months later. My only thing about adding things or taking them out is I don't want to mess anything up. Also the shops that are here make you pay for every little thing and to my knowledge they ONLY repair computers. I can be vert impatient at times and some ppl are not on their game when getting back to you about your pc. Thats my ONLY thing. I can deal with 12gbs of ram lol just i prefer more than 8gb (i know i wont use all 12gb but I like a little more space then 8). I wouldnt have thought of HP being reliable for gaming this is new to me lol. I am use to them though I never had a dell or anything. I was considering a Mac til i read all tbe issuss EA wont fix because the game was mainly written for Windows lol

The first one looks just fine, the second seems a tad overpriced, but that's just my opinion.
Honestly, I've never worked with Asus before, but the best thing to do is look up the computer on google and see the reviews.
Otherwise, the first one would work perfectly fine!

I been saving for some time now. This is the monitor I'm considering:

The monitor has gotten some negative reviews when I look it up, I would suggest a back-up plan to that.

I'm glad I could help! I spent a lot of time with an old vista computer that just barely ran the Sims, so I totally know what you mean when you're looking for a computer that just works. I bought a laptop at one point that was supposed to work well, but we ended up having to gut it, basically. You seem to be doing pretty good picking out computers on your own though, I would recommend looking through reviews before spending any hard earned money on it though. That way you can get a feel for if something is wrong with the computer before you buy it.

You know I cant go based on reviews i mean some
people have had issues but everything has issues you deal with and for the most part id say its about 50 percent less of bad rep than cyberpc and ibuypower where everyone says just avoid them so I think I'll go with the cheaper one and tbh I think some peopls do lie on reviews and just write bs to make the customer change their minds but I've seen about maybe 6 or so bad reviews about three as recent as of January and febuary of this year and most recent ones weds pretty fair. The only issues I think they were complaining about were minor but far as gaming I hear its great with other games that need extreme requirements (The sims 3 doesb't require as much as others) The only thing I think that would probably need a upgrade would be the graphics card but I think it wouldn't have to be updated for a while since 760 is compadible with the game its just fourth place when it comes to its scale to recent cards which isnt bad

Well, I hope you're joking about the graphics card, that card performs better than one of the best cards on the market. Techincally, it's singlehandedly the best card on the market for the price - performance-wise, it's better than the Titan.
As for reviews, I tend to trust them, especially when they mention faulty parts or pieces within the whole. I would hate to end up with a monitor that didn't work from the get-go. Some reviews are silly, usually pointing out shipping errors or things that the company would have no control over.  All I'm saying is to be cautious about that monitor, as that's a lot of money to be putting in, however there are quite a few reviews that said it worked fine, so you should be ok.

I found another one only thing that seems to be a issud is when using the mouse it kind hits the buttons on ths screen that was the main issue and maybe the sound but i have a iphone ipad and a dock so if i wanna hear music i got those so i am not too concerned plus my mouse will be on the slideout tray on the desk i dont like a keyboard right in front of a monitor i prefer it on a slide out tray its easier to deal with so the mouse problem wont be a issue for me only thing i hate is the design the design lol but everyone says its great for gaming its another asus though lol
