Stuttering and Freezing, Game is Unplayable.
« on: April 24, 2014, 12:05:11 PM »
I have every stuff pack (minus Katy Perry) and all the expansions. Is it too much? The game stutters in the animations, the game freezes up, and after a day of in game time, I have to reset sims (which is a kill joy on legacies), and that method is a hit and miss. I have no CC, I've cleared cache, etc.

I have:
8 core 4.4ghz processor
8gigs of ram
AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series for my graphics card

:/ Any suggestions? I really want to enjoy Sims 3 ;-; Should I pick and choose what EPs I want? :/

Hi there!
Don't worry about this, this isn't normal at all, but I may have something to fix it up for you. I run an AMD Radeon HD 7770 in my computer with i7 3.4ghz processor and 8gigs of RAM, and I have issues like this too, but it's usually only on long running games.
My first thing I recommend when I see this is to do a Factory Reset.
Secondly, what neighborhood are you using for your long-running games? Mine are usually a hit-or-miss when it comes to neighborhoods. Sunset Valley gets pretty bloated for my computer after a few generations, however Dragon Valley, Riverview and Lunar Lakes (among others) tend to work pretty optimally for long running games. AMD is a very particular brand, and they're usually best suited for videos/photo editing stuff rather than gaming cards, however you can still make it work.
I am able to run my game on high in just about every area, if you want to do a long running game I would recommend turning a few settings down, and if you aren't totally against mods, I would highly recommend Overwatch and Errortrap by Nraas for those long-running games.

I'm assuming your problems are within those "long running games" because you mentioned a legacy, but I suppose I should cover: does this happen in new files, or just old ones?
If it's just old ones, I can help you clean them up and prevent the stuttering from happening, but if it's in new ones you may be looking at a uninstall/reinstall among other things.

Does one of your sims have a lot in personal inventory? I had this problem when my inventor was carrying over 500 scrap.

I've tried a factory reset, it doesn't seem to work :/ I've tried Island, Sunset Valley, Appaloosa... I don't play in Bridgeport due to legacies. I own Barnacle Bay, don't play it much, same goes for Riverview. But the save that is unplayable is on day 2. Nothing major: I made her join medical, go to library, go home and sleep. And in that time frame the game just gets like crap. I'll try another factory reset, but yeah.

I also have Overwatch and Errortrap. It'll unstick some sims that get stuck on a boat house (well, I think it was a boat house, they tend to wind up just off of the map and I can't select them) XD

Nope. They typically just have diplomas in there XD

Thanks for responding. No one responded on TS3 forum :(

I'm afraid to jinx myself, but I've gotten through an entire day without lag! Hallelujah! I did a factory reset + Riverview. I'll post again if there's more animation lag.
