I think cheats are quite helpful bringing the needs up, particularly if the Sim is trying to learn a new skill.

I use cheats is to test somthing new ingame, during traveling because of the so many lags, my sim are always stuck in the middle of no where, so I chose to use teleportation, or somtimes I forget about my sims and start chatting, then When I come back every need is red :P

I think cheating is great for story telling too. Specifically for setting up purposes.

I think we're going to need a much clearer definition of what a mod is then, because I thought the above-mentioned was just an object with surfaces on which you can place items. What exactly about it makes it a mod? It's no different to a dresser or a table, in that regard, only that it is invisible. Do you consider all custom content mods? It doesn't change gameplay in any way.

Thanks Ratchie :) I had already been reading that thread - Leto has come up with a good idea to put a list at the beginning of the topic, as the definition seems to vary from forum to forum. I really don't like accidentally naming custom content that has been deemed a 'mod' here, so it will be good to have that cleared up.

There is a very clear cut definition of what a mod is.  It changes how the game or an object in the game works.  But even if it wasn't a mod, it would definitely qualify as 3rd party custom content.  Discussing and naming that isn't allowed here, either.  Thus, I don't see a lot of point in trying to split hairs over it.
Old forum mods never die.  We just get archived.

I can't play the game anymore like I want without moviemakercheatsenabled true. So yeah, sometimes I'm a cheater. But hey, it's for the good! You all benefit from it (see signature).

Yes, I always cheat, and I'm proud! After several attempts, from technical difficulties from my chipset, I decided, to hold off until the problem is fixed. Well, even with the new card situation, I decided, I'm happy giving my Sims whatever they want without working for it, and decided not to participate in any of Metro's challenges (unless cheating is allowed), and only stay with unofficial dynasties and legacies. I mean, this is Sims! I don't mind the bits and pieces of realism, but having to earn things, just isn't cutting it in Sims.

I do like to get rid of the Loser trait with cheats too. If a premade Sim has the loser trait, I will always open up the cheat panel, just so I can give them a more suitable trait with the rest of their traits. For example, I give Gobias Koffi commitment issues, and I'll give Parker Prudence the brave trait. Dorie will either get rebellious, or charismatic.

So in other words, I'm a proud cheater, and in my law of Sims, no one has to do laundry or get punished for their evil deeds. >:D

That's the beauty of TS3 - whether you use cheats all the time or rarely ever, there is no wrong way to play.   ;D

I personally get bored too easily if my sims have everything handed to them, so I limit my use to building cheats and cheats to fix glitches.  When I have used cheats for other things, though, I've really liked it (loved using teleportation in last year's challenge tournament).  I should probably experiment with cheats more - it could open up whole new avenues of game play that I never thought about before.

I'd like to add my proudness too. Spell check tells me that's not a word, but I think it fits the occasion! I'll admit when I first got here, I wouldn't say out-right I cheat unless asked, but the more I hung out and got comfortable with people, and realized no one would judge me for anything, I let them know. Now I'm known here as a big cheater, and I'm such a happy camper about that haha. At least I can be myself here.  ;D

Guess for me, "it depends" and "sometimes" best describe it. Evidently for challenges the answer is no (other than MOO and resetsim).

However, when testing mechanics before a challenge, definitely (or research may take several times as long as the challenge itself)!
In normal games or for storytelling purposes I do sometimes use testingcheatsenabled or buydebug, MOO etc., but not very often.

I cheat all the time and I think that's why I get bored easily. My immortal dynasty is the first time I play without any cheats or mods. So far it's been an interesting and rewarding experience.

I also use mods, I'd rather take the risk associated with using mods just so I can eliminate some of the things that really annoy me of the game (like vampires).

I used cheats when I was "setting the scene" in Appaloosa Plains for what I want to play -- which mainly meant using max needs and some money cheats to help some "NPC" families (existing and newly placed) with their furnishings, skills and a promotion or two. The other cause for me to use cheats is to edit the looks of pets, because many of the premade pets look "off" or downright bad due to weird proportions (or even weirder "genetics" when breeding). I also give all bobtailed cats I see long tails.

Oh, and I occasionally use moveobjects when decorating.
