Re-Install Question
« on: April 03, 2014, 07:21:57 PM »
I'm currently in the process of building a 2nd computer and I am going to keep a copy of the Sims 3 (Digital) in each of them. The computer I have now has everything downloaded (EP/SP and Store Stuff) in a drive I will be moving to the other computer once it's finished.

What I'd like to know is if I can get away with just copying the existing Sims 3 files from this drive to the new origin games file on each computer? Or do I have to redownload it all?

I had an idea of re-installing the base game on each computer from Origin, then copy the other files except for the last EP, then install that one to have the desktop icon up. Not sure if it would work though. I can re-download it all but if I don't have to, it would save time. Have everything else backed up in separate folders so should be good to go there with store stuff, saved games and such. Any info will be appreciated.

Hi there! In my honest opinion I'm not entirely sure if copying them over would work as well as a re-download/re-install. I can't see why they wouldn't, but I've always been the type of person to want to do things cleanly and ensure the thing will work, but that's a personal preference. I would worry that doing it that way could leave a lot of room for error in making sure things got put where they belonged. The only way to know is to remember where you put the files and try it out. Maybe someone here will have a better estimation of this, as I've never done such a thing to make my answer have enough weight.

Thanks! I may try it on the one and do the re-download on the other. Have all the store stuff saved but can download it again if need be. Just was hoping that i could save a bit of time, but as long as i have the Sims to play i'll be happy whatever way i can get it..lol (Even if it takes all day to redo it)   ;D

Well, took awhile but re-installed it on the old computer and that works fine. :)
On the other computer with the old drives i made the old Origin download path into the new one, and it seemed to have minimal downloads if any. ( Most started about 80-90% so saved me a lot of time i hope)
My Sims 3 base game install went fine but it kept locking up whenever i hit play afterwards so deleted it and am re-installing that. Hoping that that's the only one i'll have to do it with.
As long as i have my saves i'm happy.. ;D
