Horses and gates - a real blocker
« on: April 03, 2014, 04:38:00 PM »
Hey, Gang;

When mounted on my horse, I click on my destination: RIDE HERE. But when a gate is involved (double or single) sometimes my sim abandons the horse and goes through the gate himself, while the horse unsaddles herself. What's going on? I've experimented with locked and unlocked, but I can't figure it out!

Is the gate on your own property?  Horses will only go through a double gate.

How big is the gate? If memory serves, the gate needs to be a double-square for the horse to go through - if it's a single-square, then the horse is too big.

yep, double gate, locked, or unlocked, I haven't tried all the permutations of who's doing what. Could distance have something to do with it? I AM going from home to another owned lot, also with double gate, locked or unlocked

I have my horses on another lot that I own, not the home lot.  My sim stays mounted just fine going through the double gates - both leaving the paddock and returning after the ride.

Questions:

1.  Do you mount inside the paddock?
2.  How do you start riding?  (i.e. click on the Sim and "Go for a ride..."  or click somewhere on the map and click "Ride here...")
3.  How do you have them ride home? (similar to the question above)
4.  Have you tried deleting and replacing the gate or tried a different double gate?

I think it's figuring out which command from which sim is the key. i'll try your suggestions, and that "Go for a ride" command might be the key...THanks!

1.  Do you mount inside the paddock?

- I mount on my home lot..
2.  How do you start riding?  (i.e. click on the Sim and "Go for a ride..."  or click somewhere on the map and click "Ride here...")

I go "saddle" then "Mount". Then I go to where I wanna ride to and click "Ride here" from the People sim menu
3.  How do you have them ride home? (similar to the question above)

again I go to the home lot and click "Ride here"
4.  Have you tried deleting and replacing the gate or tried a different double gate?

yes to all - will go through a double gap in the fence - will try other gates

When I am leaving my paddock, I always use "Go for a ride".  When I'm ready to stop riding, I use the "Ride to here" interaction and click in the paddock.  I always ride through the gates just fine so I'm not sure what could be the issue.  Could you post a screenshot of the gate area?
