My Sim, Katie, has lived a long time, using the Young Again potion (taking her from Elder to beginning of Adult) and lots of Ambrosia. This is all in addition to having an extended life span for all Sims in the game setup.
She met and dated a mermaid Orlando and they fell in love. Then he died - dehydration. (This is the point where I learned about Ambrosia) He ate Ambrosia and was resurrected. I didn't learn about mermaids and dehydration and he died again! Lesson learned and a second portion of Ambrosia I then kept him away from salt water until he lost his mermaid traits and reverted to being a normal Sim.
At some point (between all the dying and resurrections) I wanted him to move in with Katie but I didn't seem to have that option so I moved him in as a roommate. He is however fully controllable. Orlando is still a young adult.
Katie has also had two stints away at University to get her degree. Katie had a fling with a guy at Uni first time round (while Orlando was dead the first time) so I have also 'purchased' a Clean Slate for Katie.
Katie and Orlando are boyfriend/girlfriend and have now been living in sin for ages and have 6 children.
I have been trying since their second date to get them engaged but I have never had the option, in either of them to propose marriage.
I am thinking this must be a glitch on her part from becoming young again, or the clean slate, and on his part from being dead and resurrected.
Is there something I can do to fix this?
I would prefer not to resort to cheats (this only ones I usually use are kaching and motherlode but I haven't used either in this case)
