Problem getting to the refrigerator

For some reason, every now and then, my Sim goes to the fridge and stops.  They cannot open it.  I can still click on it, take and item and drop it on a counter for them to pick up but they cannot open it.  I haven't worked out any way of solving it other than buying a new fridge.

It used to happen occasionally but since the latest update sometimes it happens twice in one day.  It's a good job my Sim is filthy rich otherwise she would have starved!

I have no mods at all (since the latest update)

Any ideas?

Have you tried moving the fridge to a different location in the kitchen or replacing it with a new one?

Moving to another location makes no difference.  I have to replace with a new one.  Just frustrating and costing lots of simoleons!

I feel your pain. I've had many glitchy refrigerators including the special one you get at the top of the chef career.

This may sound odd, but have you noticed any gnomes running around your Sim's house?  I find that gnomes often block different things.  The fridge always seems to be one of those things, as well as the shower and the toilet.

Those little devils have been known to be in refrigerators, lol. I have had to replace a few myself, not sure why this happens and yes it is rather pricey.

You might have the refrigerator the wrong way round.

If you have the Nraas mod Mastercontroller as well as Mastercontroller Cheats, you can actually reset an object.  I find this useful when, for reasons often unknown, an object becomes glitched.

From a computer - Nraas>Mastercontroller>Household>Object Reset: this provides a full list of all objects on the lot, and provides the ability to reset them.  Simply scroll through the list of objects, find the 'problem child', select it and click the check mark.  If it is an item which can hold items (like a fridge or a chest) then I would take those items out and place in your inventory first.  90% of the time this object reset works for me and saves having to delete and repurchase it.
