As a matter of fact, I have tried copying a saved game to a CD and putting it into another computer and it did not work.  Not sure how you did it, but it did not work for me.  Thumb drives are much more dependable to copy to, but that is my opinion.

I know that EA is not really worried about saved games being copied, but if saved games can be copied, so can the file and I do know that you cannot do that either.

While a CD can work, thumb drives are definitely most reliable. It is possible to burn at a speed too fast and cause some corruption of data. If just a bit is off, it will not work. I think a mistake people would make is to select the faster burn method, but burning nice and slow ensures the data is transferred properly. It can also be just that it was a bad disc, or something went wrong during the burn process. So yeah, a CD can work. It is just a matter of testing that save to ensure the data was transferred right so that you do not lose precious gameplay data.

Thanks Carl for the input.  I guess since I have tried it and it didn't work, I assumed you couldn't do it, plus I have been told that you couldn't transfer to a CD, guess I learned something new then, lol.
Is it true that cannibals don't eat clowns because they taste funny?

It's perfectly natural and normal to learn new things all the time when you're handling computers. It happens to me too almost every day, even though it's more than eleven years since I bought my first computer. If/when the day ever comes when you think you already know everything there is to know, then you have reason to start worrying.

When i moved my files to my new system i put the saved games on one of the drives i was going to move over to the new computer and just copied them to the new saves directory once i got the Sims 3 back up and running on that computer. All my saved games are playable so obviously it worked for me. :)
