Uninstalling to Re-installing.. again
« on: March 19, 2014, 11:52:04 AM »
Okay, so my Sims 3 has worked wonderful for a real long time, then over the last two day it would just crash all the time and it is so frustrating, and when I couldn't take it anymore I went through the agonizing process of uninstalling Sims 3, along with all 11 EP's. Now I have done this once before and lost EVERYTHING so this time I was going to try and be "smart" and put all my saved sims, downloads, mods, and saved games on a thumb drive then stick them back into the freshly installed Sims 3. It was a great plan I thought until it didn't work, the files on my thumb drive looked different from the new files on the Sims, and the launcher when I opened it didn't have any of my download files after I sat for about two hours re-installing the downloads. But it did greet me with a "Script Error, do you want to keep running scripts on this page? [Yes] or [No]" And that message had started popping up around the time the game began crashing. So I guess my question is (Right now I'm uninstalling it again and I'm planning on just not putting my old files back into the new ones) is there any way to take my old saved games and put them back into the new installed file without it messing everything up? There probably is I just did it wrong.

Hello there! Welcome to the forum!
First of all, I always recommend Factory Resets to those who face the nasty Uninstall/Reinstall process.
What operating system are you on? Mac or Windows?
Also, can you describe to me what you mean when you say the files "look different?"
Do they have a different ending on them (other than .sims3 or .sims3backup or .sim)? The more we know about the problem the more likely we can find a solution. As many of us are familiar with backing up our saves and Sims (especially before the tedious uninstall/reinstall). I'm sure we'll find a good solution that fix your problems.

Now on the script errors > I get that a lot in my game launcher. I couldn't tell you what causes it or what makes it go away but I've never had mine linked to crashing. So maybe your crashing is due to a different issue and you only noticed it more when you saw the script errors come up? Though I may want someone more technical to back up my claim on that one. We can likely help you with crashes if they occur. We'll take it one problem at a time now though. :) Again, welcome to the forum!
