I am also having problems here. I bought a guitar and placed it inside my house. When I asked my Sim to play it, she took the guitar and went outside of the house to play! Even on rainy days, she does that and thus gets a soaked moodlet!

I tested the situation by removing the door of my house. However this time, my Sim refused to play the guitar and on the bubble box appearing on top of her head, there is shown a pathfinding error due to no doors at my house. This is because my Sim can't go outside to play her guitar!

Is there a fix for this? Even my placing the guitar inside of my house, my Sim still goes outside to play. I would like to add that in my previous save, no such incidents appeared. This is indeed strange.

Sims need a certain amount of space to play. Is your house crowded?

I purposefully crowd up the bedrooms so musicians won't play in them and wake up their housemates. Have you added items or rearranged things since the earlier save when it worked?

No, my house is not crowded.

The earlier save was from a different game. Besides, both my saves have huge spaces to roam about. I am also perplexed by this.

The sims do need space, but I'm still baffled when they leave the largest rooms to stand outside, yet start playing in my teensy nursery where the baby is sleeping. *sigh* It also happens a lot when interacting with toddlers, doesn't it? For some reason, the parents prefer to teach their kids to walk in deep snow. Parents of the year ::) but I digress.

I've read on another thread that the game needs a few in-game days to get a handle on pathing in a house you've recently moved in, so perhaps waiting a while could help. If the problem persists, you could always fiddle around with room sizes and furniture positions. So far, it's more of a trial-and-error strategy for me, as opposed to an actual plan where to (not) put things. If all else fails, I'll just grumpily let my sim play in the rain if that's what they want to do. You could always move to a new house and see if it still happens there, too.
Shameless advertisement!

What is strange is that when my Sim played in Waylon’s Haunt, a very cramped space by the way, she did not go outside and practised her piano skills inside!

It might be different on community lots, because you don't own the instruments and walking away with them is frowned upon. :P I built a dive bar with a cramped stage and sims played the instruments where I put them, but put a bass in your living room, and your bassist will go upstairs to their bedroom to play it. I think it's sims just being disagreeable, but it's annoying when you, say, want a jam session to make sense (i.e. not having your pianist inside and your bassist on the lawn).

Well, this is becoming much stranger. I tested this again at a new residential lot. This time, I purposely made my home smaller and my Sim actually played her guitar in the house!

I really do not know what is going on here!
