When Playing guitar, my sim walks far away.
« on: September 13, 2010, 11:45:04 AM »
Hello all, I'm new here, and after reading lots of posts, I'm wondering if anyone else notices that their sim will walk way out of the way to play guitar. For instance, my house is plenty large enough to play inside, but every time I tell him to play, or learn a new song, he will walk to the backyard, way out of the way. Any ideas why? Thanks for your thoughts.  ;D

Welcome to the forum, PamperedWabbit. Yeah, I notice that all the time. My best guess is he has the Loves the Outdoors trait? So, if he does, he'd simply rather be outdoors. It is annoying though I agree.

Most of my Sims do that too.  It is quite annoying.  I rarely choose "love the outdoors" trait, so I don't think that is what it is.  Maybe they just need so many extra squares around them in case they will have an audience.

Thanks for your thoughts. Well, he doesn't have the Loves Outdoors trait, but I do like the idea of needing so many squares for an audience. Hum. I really wanted him to play indoors, that way everyone in the house/room could also get the music note moodlet.

One of my Sims used to play in the bathroom. I always annoyed me. It was the only bathroom in the house and it was also a stock home but for some reason or another they always went in the bathroom to play.

When Tom was still in the house he used to play in the narrowest hallway in the entire house, but no one seemed to care they just cut through the bathroom. That only got blocked when the gnome 'didhisthing' and appeared in front of the door.

I tend to confiscate guitars, and only let Sims have them from the Family Inventory if they really need to use them!  One of ours has a habit of walking next door to his parent's bedroom when he feels the need to practice!  I think it's down to the program's 'routing' regime ... they need to be "somewhere else" and the Sim just picks the nearest "somewhere else".

As PamperedWabiit noted, some go outside ... we have another Sim who always goes the mailbox to play.

Weird ... that's what Sims are.  NEVER allow them too much free will!!  ;D

I recently had one that ran around to the side of his house to play.  >:( Unless I issued the command, in which he would either just back up, if there was enough room, or he'd go to the livingroom. Silly sim.

That is extremely annoying! I put them in a room with a locked door so they have to stay where I put them!

I've found they wander less if you put the guitar on the ground and tell them to play it rather than clicking it from inventory.  I had one that used to always wander into the only room in the house that had a sleeping Sim in it, practically guaranteed... that was irksome.

Not only does mine insist on playing in the kitchen but she positions herself so shes blocking both the fridge and stove so none of the other sims can eat while she practices!

Putting the guitar on ground and clicking it to play always works well for me. They take it and stand only few steps away from where it was placed and play. For me it's better than clicking it from the inventory.

Thanks for all the replies!! I think from now on I will remove the guitar from his inventory and place it on the ground, perfect solution.  ;)

This happens to me too. My sim either walks into the kitchen or his bedroom. I'll try leaving it on the ground though and see if it helps :)
