Children with black faces?

Hi guys,

I'm a late comer to Sims 3. Only started playing a couple of weeks ago but i'm loving it. Anyway my problem, I decided to do a fresh install of base game and the expansions I own:

World Adventures
Ambitions
Pets
Generations
Late Night
Seasons
University Life

I followed instructions from these forums and from Carl's guide on how to uninstall and re-install in the order that the expansions were released......copied my save games and copied them back into the correct folder after i'd re-installed everything else............So after all that, I logged into game and started up my latest saved game and lo and behold the child in my family had a black face. I checked my other saved game, and the child's face in that game was black to.

The weird thing is, it's only affecting the children,....adults and pets are unaffected.

I've been searching on the Net for solutions but all I can find is "update your graphic card drivers" or "it's custom content". Well, I don't use custom content, i've only downloaded stuff from the Sims 3 store and i've un-installed to see if that was where the problem lies but to no avail. My GCard drivers are up to date so that's not it. If it's any help, i'm using a Nvidia GTX560Ti.

Also I'm running Sims 3 on W7 64bit with 8Gig of Ram and an Intel i5-2500k.

I noticed that other reports of this problem are mostly from a few years ago now, so maybe there has been a solution to this since, that I just haven't come across. If so, could some kind soul please point me at it . Oh almost forgot, before I re-installed the game, I had no problem of the kind I described, with 80 hrs of game time with the odd crash to desktop.

PS. I've tried the "Factory Reset" that's posted above, without pasting my saved games into the new folder, but when I tried to create a child Sim, it's face was blacked out still.

Hello there! Welcome to the forum! Thank you for being specific, as that will help us narrow down the search to fix the problem.
So it's not your drivers, and it's not CC - those are two things that are at the top of the list to ask for.

Just curious, what are the graphics settings you keep your game at? Maybe if you lower it or change a few it might help, anyways, I'm off to see what a search will do to help fix your problem.

Hopefully that helps, if not I'll hit the drawing boards again!

Edit: That link may mean that you have either the wrong driver or the driver isn't supported. Though now that I look at it, it may sound redundant since you said you saw your drivers were up to date, back to the drawing boards, and maybe someone else will have an idea.

Edit again: I see your struggles, as the only solutions are aimed at people who have bad Custom Content or haven't updated their drivers.

Although I still have no idea what caused the problem, I meticulously went through the whole uninstall/re-install processes/registry edits etc....re-downloaded all my stuff from The Store, pasted my saved games and hey presto......back to normal  Happy Days.

Thanks for your efforts Livvie, hopefully this won't happen again. Also, the whole site and forums are an immense accomplishment, so informative, friendly and helpful. I'll know where to come if I have any other problems.

I randomly got this issue on my install on my laptop just last night, except instead of kids faces it was an adult. Then, if I tried to click the options screen, it had a black background and no buttons. I ended up also having to uninstall and start over because the game was crashing like crazy even if I managed to make it past that screen.

Well I'm so glad you fixed it! Likely something got corrupted or went missing during an install, though I'm really sorry you had to go through such a lengthy process. I certainly know how that feels. I haven't uninstalled/reinstalled the game in the while, just getting by on Factory Resets, but I still spend a whole day just getting my game up and running the way it's supposed to! My fingers are crossed that your children remain free of black splotches covering their face or anything else!

Doing a complete uninstall did fix it, I have only re-installed the base game so far. I had a LOT of issues on that laptop so it is nice to have a fresh install.
