Alright, I had this problem for months now, but just left it alone and stopped playing Sims.
Now I really want to play again, but every time I try to select a family, it goes black. Shortly after going to a black screen, a window pops up saying
"The Sims 3 has stopped working"
And then if I try to X out the window, it closes my entire Sims 3 game.
My sister got me Nraas and UL Launcher Bypass and I tried deleting those, but everything is going wrong because I have no clue how any of this works.
I would really like to start playing again, can anyone help?
Hi there! Would you mind letting us know the general specs of your computer? You can find it by clicking the Start button on a Windows Computer and right-clicking "My Computer" and selecting "Properties."
We'll want to know your Processor, Installed Memory (RAM), and graphics card if it tells you.
Some other questions that will help us would be:
What's your operating system, Windows or Mac?
Are you using Mods or CC? (without getting too specific)
What Expansion and Stuff packs do you have?
When did you last uninstall/reinstall the game?
Is your game up to date? What is your current version?
Now, you mentioned you were selecting a family the game would crash (I call the black screen and that message you get a crash), right? If you go into My Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 and go all the way to the bottom you should see some random files, those are your crash logs. They will tell you why the game crashed. They should have a .xlsomething and a notepad named the same thing right after them. I can't remember what it was exactly, and I don't have one to look at so bear with me. Some people can read those files and understand them - I am not one of those people. I use a program called The Sims 3 Crash Log Analyzer found here:
Crash Log Analyzer. You'll need to make an account with Mod the Sims but it's completely free.
When you download that, you'll need to go to the place of the download and run it. It will open a window and automatically read the crash logs in your game. This should be done without you needing to find them. You may have to press the "refresh" at the top to get it to show up, but you shouldn't have to search for it.
Once you've done that, let us know what the Analyzer said about the issue and we'll help you work through it.
