Just an Idea I had when clearing out some old stuff out of my room, Do genes of origional sims carry on through the family? As an example.. A blue sims purple hearts with a normal sim and the kid comes out in a normal colour.  If the kid grew up and purple hearted with another normal sim is there any chance their kid will be blue? Or am I thinking too complex here for sim mechanics.

Balkor,

I'm not sure if custom skin tones skip a generation in the Sims3. I've never seen it myself in-game, but most of my Sims have one of the relatively "mainstream" skin tones.

AriaGirl77's got a legacy story here where it's been discussed recently.

I can't see why the game wouldn't keep track of it as part of a Sim's genetic makeup, but I confess I've not read anything here on the Forum that indicates anyone's seen it skip a generation.

I've had hair and eye color skip a generation.  I had a family in which a daughter married Mortimer Goth and their daughter had the purple hair of Mortimer's mother, Cornelia.  I think it turned up again after skipping the next generation, too.  I've never played with blue or red skin color, so I can't say whether it works the same as hair color.

I play a lot of multicolored sims and I've never seen skin color skip a generation.  Hair and eye color, yes.  But apparently skin doesn't work the same way, which is kind of a bummer.

AriaGirl77, it does seem kind of bogus. :(

A recessive skin-color popping up three or four generations down the line would be a neat thing to see.

I saw this topic and had to pop in! I'm doing my own kind of Dynasty because I can't do the official one lol. I have a green kid so I'll keep you guys updated to see if it can skip generations even though I don't think so either. Here's my little Garnier in front of her toddler stuff!

@Esther:

Why can't you do a Dynasty?  Sorry if you've already mentioned it somewhere else.  I'm not remembering it.

I'm a HUGE cheater Pam! Yes I've mentioned it a ton of times before ;D! It was really hard for me not teleporting on the grim challenge! I didn't but if I could have I think I would have gotten a better score! I know I COULD probably not cheat, but I have found I have a really hard time getting their needs in the green without that cheat and it doesn't leave me any time to level up, get married etc. The only downside to cheating that I have found is not being able to play 99% of the challenges and now the Dynasty, but I get alot of good ideas from Metro and your challenges, so it's not all bad!  ;D I know I could play them and not tell anyone I cheated, but I'm an honest person and it wouldn't be fair to someone who doesn't cheat!

I think you should give it a try.  The Dynasty is difficult at first, but it gets much better as the money starts coming.  The best and easiest way to keep their needs up is woo hoo.  It maxes their fun and social in about three seconds.  If you can find a spouse right away, you'll be fine.  I'd be happy to help you along the way if you decide to start a Dynasty.  :)

Thanks Pam! Like I said on another post, when it first came out I had trouble but I've been playing over a year now. I'm going to try a single sim tomorrow with no cheats and see how that works! As of now, I can play 8 sims with cheats, but I know better than to attempt it without cheats. If all goes well, I'll work myself back up than hopefully I can play a real Dynasty!

EDIT: I just remembered how I used to have a cow about playing with aging on, now every single game I play, it's on. Of course I still use Ambrosia, Life Fruit and Death Flower, but it's an improvement! I think so anyways lol. :D
